Yes, but why not go with this PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341045

I have had nothing but good luck with it. Its also $130 after coupon and rebate.

Or this PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341046&Tpk=ozc%201250w

Which is in my main, currently $145 after.

I would try to get a 1100 1200 gold or platinum little overkill but always leaves room for more in the future. And I would definitely go corsair they have a five-year warranty and there build quality is the best in the business.

If neither he nor yourself are familiar with SLI then it might be best to just go with the most high end single card you can find. SLI does have its issues every now and then

That is the original reason for the 690, i have read about microstutter and how a bunch of games dont run well on SLI right off the bat. (sleeping dogs comes to mind)

I could recommend the Corsair AX series and also the Seasonic 1000w Platinum PSU that I use in my rig. It works amazing and platinum is awesome for e-peen.

I'm still leaning towards the 690, but thanks for every bodies input. Hopefully I will have some pictures for you all next week.

I get to swap cases on my own rig tomorrow and then hopefully I can order the parts for this build on monday.

Also, if money is no object, you could consider getting a dedicated PhysX card as well. If he plays PhysX games, it could be a welcome addition.
