Not much that can be done I guess, until you get a new cooler... maybe that paticular intel cooler isn't very good?

I know the stock fan isn't that good but it seems to do ok. so far I'm hitting around 3.2 stable with 1.3250V in the bios setup and reading 1.28-1.29 in cpuz. my temps are around 45ish at idle and around 55-56 at full load running F@H and prime or superpi. still wouldn't mind changing the heatsink though as both it and the ram are holding me back from going much further though it seems

There seems to be some confusion between what they CAN run at and what they SHOULD run at. While no one is disputing that the CPU will work at 85c, it is destroying the CPU inside. The longer it runs that way, the more damage.

The common argument by people trying to convince themselves of this "safe to 85c" thing is the different sensor locations. check my sig...I have debunked that theory completely. The temps read through TAT are almost identical to the readings taken directly off the IHS, which is where the Intel thermal guideline is based from.

Pook what did you get it up too !
I don't let mine get over 55C ..
I'm currently at 3.3

Yikes! Your temps are that high at stock? Are you sure that your airflow good in the case? Or is there a lot of dust buildup on the fans? See what your temps are with the side panel off.

Also, have you thought about replacing the thermal compound on the chipset heatsinks with AS5? Those heatsinks usually have crappy thermal compound or are easily knocked around.
