New 3770k build VERY HOT

Hi guys, It's been awhile since I have done some posting. I just finished my new build yesterday, so I give it a boot up, and start going through my BIOS settings, I checked in on my temps, hearing that Ivy runs hot, and I was at 59-61c after just starting up and idling. I checked all the BIOS settings, everything was set as it was from the factory. My next instinct was to check and reapply TIM and re-seat the cooler (Corsair H60). I cleaned off the processor and H60 well and used just a dab of Arctic Silver 5. I turned the system on and made sure the pump and fans were running, and they are. The temps were sitting in the same 59-61c range. I went ahead and went into windows to run real temp and Intel Burn Test, note that in windows I was running 65-67c, as soon as I started Intel Burn, it jumped up to 100-105c on all cores mad.gif Just as i figured it would. I tried another time, reapplying TIM and re-seating the H60, made sure the airflow was good in the case, and turned off Q-fan in the BIOS, now the H60 fan is running at 1,600 rpm. The temps did not budge, and still sit at 59-61c at idle, and through the roof under any sort of load, once again, at stock clocks. (Ambient room temp is about 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit)

Any help would be appreciated, as I am not sure what to do next!

System Specs:

Intel Core i7 - 3770k @ stock speeds
Corsair H60 - CPU Cooler
ASUS Maximus V GENE - BIOS 1204
Kingston Hyper X Predator - 16GB @ 1600 MHz
EVGA GTX 690 4GB @ stock clocks
Kingston Vnow+ 64 GB SSD - Boot drive
Seagate 1TB 7200 RPM HDD - Storage
Thermaltake 850 watt Black Edition Power Supply
Thermaltake V9 Black Edition Case

As you have reseated it already I would say defective H60, have you got an air cooler to test with?

The temps you are getting are more like the temps you'd get off the stock HS, even though the H60 isn't that good you should be getting better temps than that. Have you checked for any mashed fins on the radiator that could be blocking airflow?

edit: check the Vcore, it could be set higher than it should be?

What RPM is the pump running at? I have heard of people that run it off the motherboard whit the PWM plug and the pump will only operate at 1000 rpm. I have mine running directly off the power supply at 4200 rpm +/- a few.

I have the stock cooler that came with the 3770k, but that's it, at lunch I can run home and give it a shot, the stock one just seems very, very small!

The last time I looked mine was running in the higher 3,900's. I have it connected to the CPU_OPT header on the M5G.

As bucshman said what are you running the pump off as asus mobo will default to 600rpm.

The h60 is comparable to most equally priced air coolers. At $60 you can't expect to get outstanding temps from anything. My 2500k is running at 4.5gig at 1.264 vcore with an h60. After an 8 hour prime run the max temp was 62c, and gaming temps don't break 45c. I think that is pretty respectable for the money spent.

No mashed fins on the radiator, the H60 is not new, but it was cooling my 920 @ 4 GHz just fine, I am willing to buy a new cooler, I have been planning on getting back into custom water cooling loops, I just believe it should not be running this hot at stock clocks with any kind of cooling. I checked my Vcore a few times, it was at 1.019V every time.

If it's running at 3900rpm then it sounds like a defective cooler, Corsair is very easy to deal with on RMA's. I would get in contact with them soon.
