CM Hyper 212 EVO question

Thread Starter
I just installed a CM Hyper 212 EVO into my CM HAF 922 case. I have the Hyper 212 fan pulling the air toward the exhaust fan in the back of my case. I'm cooling a 3570k. Before installing, my idle CPU temps (using CPUID hardware monitor) were 40 for the package and 41 for core 1 (the hottest core). After installing, my temps only dropped to 36 for the package and 39 for core 1. Did I do something wrong? I was expecting it to cool a little more than than that.

Also, according to the fans PWM tab on CPUID hardware monitor, my CPU fan has stayed at 100% since I installed it. It does seem a little loud.

This is my first build, so please excuse my ignorance and any stupid questions I might ask. biggrin.gif

I'm assuming that what you're saying by "Before Installing" is the stock Intel cooler.

The difference won't be that noticeable on idle temperature as compared to load temperature. As the lowest possible temperature that can be achieved by the CPU through air cooling will usually be the room temperature, then that's where your air cooling limits itself. You should've tried it by getting the load temperature as that will give you more noticeable results as compared to idle temperature.

If it weren't that, then it means you screwed up somewhere in seating the heatsink.
It's a computer.

^ this. What are your systems specs? Need to know what motherboard you are using to help you with the pwm issue. Fill out the rig builder in your profile. Go into your bios and check under advanced hardware ( or something hardware ) and it should have a listing to change the speed or rpm of your cpu and other fan ports.

Right, I was using Intel stock cooler. That makes sense though, thank you.

Motherboard is MSI Z77-G45.

My rig builder is already filled out.

Same board as me. Go into bios and into MSI section where you can make the regular changes. Then into advanced next. Then enter hardware monitor and you should see the temp and rpms for your fans. I set the temp for 45 and the % at 37.5. The fan wont ramp up until it get to 45 degrees know. The % is the speed it will run at until it reaches that set temp.

Hey. Welcome to OCN.

I'd just like to point out that it doesn't really matter what your idle temps are, as long as they're not exceeding like 45-50. The real important thing is load temperatures.

Don't forget to put your rig in your signature. This way, we can check the specs of your setup without having to leave the thread. Yeah, it sounds like were really lazy (I know I am), but it's just a lot easier that way smile.gif

Glad to help. MSI doesn't set the pwm feature up before shipping boards out. They let the user set it at their preference. Hope the run turns out great.

I've been running Prime 95 for about 30 minutes now, and my package temp is fluctuating between 62 and 64. I'm about to leave for work, it should be safe to leave it running, right?
