Tec Gpu Cooling ideas Needed.

Thread Starter
So a few of the oc members have brought up the idea of doing tec gpu cooling and so I figured might be worth throwing up a thread to see if anyone has ideas on the subject.

Cooling the gpu is trivial but the complication comes in to play with cooling the vrms without having to make a cold side block for every gpu mobo.

The other option is just to pick a video card and build one for that specific card.

Any other ideas.

Here is one idea that was presented to me

I guess the idea is to split the waterblock but I'm still a little confused on the functionality.

I'd like to get some more ideas/feedback on this idea.

It would be a PITA to try and and make your own blocks for gpu`s , maybe modify existing blocks by machining flat surface on block and using 1/2 of your dual chiller. TEC`s would sit on machined surface and the inlet and outlet would be on the end screwed into a slightly raised area on the end. You would have to modify your heat exchanger to re-configure the flow but it would be child`s play for a man of your talents. 680 or non-reference 670 would be a nice place to start. ( shameless hint ) Sorry but that is the first time I have tried to modify a picture. All the best my friend !thumb.gif

yeah , but it would be more legit ( and elite biggrin.gif ) to incorporate both , your idea is the fastest logical way to go , but as u can see , u will need to have another thing plugged on the Loop with that route frown.gif

(the pic mindchild posted is mine btw) what i did there , is an idea , a mockup , an idea most of it lol ...

Since each video card is different, it will be too costly to make blocks for each card if VRM cooling is included.
I guess a universal GPU block will be more practical (excluding the VRMs). But that leaves VRM to small heatsinks.

For multiple cards (SLI, crossfire), running chilled water through them is a better choice.

How would you circulate water to prevent any hot spots ? Would you have a built in pump ? Also what about height esp, if you are SLI or crossfire with a smaller mobo. I realize the one I was thinking still needs 2 loops but we are being extreme so what`s another loop between friends. biggrin.gifthumb.gif

This. I followed L3P's custom made Mars II water block and it took over 2 months to make it. Sure once you have the plans you're golden for reproduction. But that means every card has to have a re-designed block.

Fox has the best solution for cooling GPU's completely. Now if you want to cool the GPU only and use heat sinks on the vrms and ram, then as far as I know you have already created a block for those...

In the spirit of brainstorming: Most water cooled cards only take one PCI slot with the water block. If you could make a slim profile water chiller to adapt to the water blocks (ie: Aquacomputer) you might have something.

Notice the acetal inline block that can be removed to allow the SLI bridge to be bolted on. If you could get a block to connect that way and have your regular water loop to go in the hot side of the TEC and an integrated pump to push the cold side into the cards you could have "bolt-on" chiller type block.

But even then, that would be hellishly heavy for a single PCB.

yeah , its one if the reasons this is hard to tackle , im right now visualizing and sketching first ( thats how i come up with ideas , and then pass them to SW as a rough prototype)

Chillers are really the easiest and probably the best way to do this..

But for argument sake, any thoughts about maybe doing a universal block and then doing a separate heatsink that would be piped back to the coldplate for the vrms (universal maybe)

Or I'm leaning to just doing a 670 or 680 reference block.

The other problem is trying to do a block thin enough to do triple sli. How many people really run triple sli 680's anyway.

If someone is looking to cool three cards, you might want to point them to my solution. For a single or dual card setup then I think you could look into Dwood's type brackets (on the forums under artisans). They allow an Antec or corsair unit to be used on the GPU and a fan to be mounted for the vrm's.

You could make the single TEC block with a universal mount for a 120 or 80mm fan... KISS principle I guess...
