You're going to want the base on the left ("rocket" or "fast" base). The 3770K has no cold bug, so you want as much surface area as possible for the LN2 to keep the chip cold.

For chips with a cold bug, the "slow" base (on the right) is easier to control so you don't accidentally go below the CB.

That's what I do as well. Make sure you let it dry 100% before you put it on, though... I had to fight mine for 45 minutes or so trying to pry it off... the LET acted like glue because I had put it on before it was totally dry.

Make sure you wrap some tape around where the base and the top housing meets. Don't want to acetone to leak out.

Really not to happy about my bench. Not that it wasn't fun. just that with not knowing what to do. I started before i was ready and realized very soon that you have to be very prepapred before you start anything. So the hole time i was trying to play catch up. I could have doubled the time at the actual kebnoard, instead i was crushing ice running to get a blender...

I did put a rubber band into the seal the Let all over the POT. If i would have missed this i would have had a real crappy night.

Even though im not happy i cant wait till tomorrow or maybe Thursday cause i only used have my DICE and i think it will last with the way its stored in a cooler in the freezer. Because now i know what not to do and im not gonna jump the gone just because im excited to try new toys

I cant wait til my test bench shows up so i can get the classified on water... Kepler does really well on water in my experience with the whole gpu boost takes advantage of never going over 45-50c

i could have done it today but man would i had a brain meltdown from the stress. But as i said i took so much from this and i really feel that next time will be so much smoother

my first ever bench session i had my solvent leak out bc i didnt tape it up
then, just a few weeks ago i didnt have it taped up well enough and it leaked...and because i was lazy and didnt will the socket gaps with kneaded art eraser, i killed a 6.7g 3770k.
i think it was nuke_em who suggested i use Gorilla Tape once upon time.. its the strongest stuff ive ever used, works perfectly, and doesnt leave adhesive residue on the pot. just dont re-use the tape once you take it off (which is what i did before mine leaked on me)

yeah my first bench session wasnt the best either. as i said above, i first had to deal with a leak. after that, things just didnt go as well as i wouldve liked. it takes a while to get the hang of how your chip/system behaves when its cooled subzero and OCed like a mofo. Its not as simple and straightforward as ambient OC ... hence why its dubbed extreme! Welcome to the club though, you broke your proverbial cherry

5.9GHz is pretty much the highest you'll see on dry ice. In fact, that's better than many people get. I had trouble validating 5.8 when I was using dice.
