New Rig

Hey, Ninja Boy again, I'm still desiding whether or not to build a new computer or to get a Apple. So, I was on Newegg (of course) and I was configuring a computer. This is what I got:

Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129017
Cooling:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118015
Combo Drive (x2):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827131014
Power Supply:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817116002
Hard Drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136011
Ram (x2 or x4):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227140
Monitor:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824006084
Motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131025
Processor:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115003
Sound Card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829127002
Speakers:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836121120
Graphics Card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102062

If I build this rig, at first, I'm going to drop thinks like ram so I don't have to cheap out on my major parts like GPU or CPU. How smart am I?

Don't get a Restorator, get high end air cooling like the Big Typhoon or a Scythe Infinity. Also, get a better PSU, like the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610. A 320Gb Seagate Perpendicular HDD would perform almost as well as the Raptor X, and have much more storage.

Also, I would recommend getting the eVGA 680i board, and an 8800GTS. The 8800GTS is a little bit faster than the X1950XTX, and it's DirectX 10 compatible.

Big Typhoon:

Scythe Infinity:

Seagate 320GB Perp Recording: (Could get 2 for RAID 0)

Hard Drive: I don't need more storage, I have 555GB in Raid 0 and I'm only using 50GB, so, 150 is plenty for me.
Power Supply: Cool, I really didn't know which one to get, I know what to look for, but I have no clue which power supply is beter than which.
Cooling: I currently have a TT Big Typhoon on my AMD X2 4400+ and I like but, I will I be able to get 4.0GHz with low temps on air?
Graphics Card: Would the new DX10 ATI card be faster than the 8800? Also, is the difference the 8800GTS and the GTX worth the price? Or can the GTS be overclocked to be equal to the GTX?
Thanks, I know I'm a nüb.

IMO, the Raptors are only worth the money if you have 2 for RAID 0.
Power Supply: PC P&C are always great.
Cooling: No, but you won't reach it with the Restorator either. If you're going watercooling, go for a good high-end custom system.
Graphics Card: Yes, I was just trying to keep fairly close to what you posted, price wise. The 8800GTX beats X1950XTX Crossfire.

I don't think you'll get 4ghz on air, you'll probably need water for that

AMD's DX10 cards will probably be faster than g80 but they aren't releasing that until Q1'07.

An OCed GTS will beat a GTX at stock and should match it when the GTX is OCed slightly

I could always steal one of these 300GB HD I have in my computer now and make that for movies, pictures, etc.
I was also considering getting a Danger Den Custom System, but I'm lost when it comes to Watercooling... would a $150-$250 range be enough money to get to 4GHz?
As far as GPUs go, I'm probably just going to get the GTS but include it in my Water cooling to overclock it
Thanks for all your help, I'm an über nüb.

~~CPU:
Is a FSB of 800 possible on a Conroe? Because that's what I was hoping for, I got DDR2 800 Ram for that reason. {|}Ninja[]Boy_

You need to multiply the FSB by 2 to get the mhz for the RAM (400fsb=800mhz). Get the Crucial I suggested earlier, they use the exact same chips as all high end ddr2 800 sticks

Anyway, here is the WC setup I've put together

Danger Den Copper TDX $53
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...oducts_id=2594

Swiftech MCP655 $80
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...oducts_id=3112

Black Ice® GT Stealth 240 $55
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...oducts_id=4540

Danger Den Fillport Reservoir $15 (might require drilling a hole in your case)
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ndex&cPath=298

ClearFlex 60 Tubing 1/2" ID 3/4" OD $2
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...oducts_id=1953

Now all that is needed is for someone with more knowledge about WC to review this build and change/add what is needed

Forget 4.0GHz.. you'll need phase for that most likely.

For water, I'd say about 3.8GHz.

The GTS can be overclocked to GTX performance in DX9 games but this could change in DX10 games
