[Engadget] ASUS 15-inch Zenbook U500: Ivy Bridge, optional NVIDIA graphics and a full numpad

ASUS is expanding its Zenbook lineup to include a larger 15-inch model. The company just announced the Zenbook U500, an Ultrabook packing some pretty robust internals. There's an Ivy Bridge Core i7 processor under the hood, along with an optional NVIDIA GT650M graphics chip and up to 512GB of storage...

See the article for continuation:

Personal comment: I have to admit, I am torn by this decision, after waiting for about 6 months for the perfect practical, lightweight, performing and slick laptop, I had settled for the Zenbook ux32VD, which I bought a month ago. It was not exactly what I was looking for, wanted a 15" with a little more graphic power (for light gaming sessions). And now, this news... this just crushes me, what can you do...

Enjoy!

I was thinking this too... My Vaio S13A that I just bought will be completely obsolete when this comes out.

I'm going to hold a grudge against Asus for a while for not telling me anything even after I begged for info on a 15" model (I know they couldn't release the info, but let's not mention that).

1 month old Asus UX32VD for sale; been used only for web-surfing and microsoft office use, good price for you my friend. biggrin.gif

P.S. Not really selling it... was meant as a joke... been getting quite a few private messages lol.

OH MY GOD YES!

This is the Windows' competitor to the rMBP..Slightly thicker, not as high res screen...but as nice in every other way but cheaper.

I keep thinking about how unbalanced some of the hardware is in modern laptops. Who's going to need an i7 and a GTX650m in an ultrabook? I bet the thing will burn a hole through your lap before you actually manage to do anything productive or hardware intensive. And even strictly speaking in terms of well matched hardware. What gamer is going to a need a mobile i7 with a GPU as opposed to a mobile i5 with a GPU? The i5 would probably save people a bit of cash and cut down on the heat and battery drain while being powerful enough to run any game you would be playing on a laptop.

Wow.

I got a UX32A about a month ago, and I love it. But this? This looks insane. The price point is going to be high, though. Probably close to $2000.

Probably not that high. I'd say $1700 tops. Hoping it is closer to 1.4-1.5k though.
