Also I think people like sager so much is that they only look for raw performance while neglecting useability and comfortability.

It's not just current gen laptops. I was considering alternatives from more "mainstream" OEMs like ASUS but everyone recommended Sager like it's the hottest thing on the market. Unfortunately for me I bought into the hype of blind men. http://i.imgur.com/8eiWh.gif

Modular, Matte Screen, Cheaper price with equivalent hardware, this is a good alternative to rMBP no matter how thin you try and slice it.

Who knows what kind of battery life it will have though? Right now the only other computers with 77whr intnernal batteries are the series 7 and envy. Also the battery in the rmbp is actually larger than any of these at 95whr. If you turn off external gpu in osx (impossible to do in windows it's true), you can get even more battery life, like 8hrs.

Honestly, we don't have enough info about whether it will even be better to than the samsung or hp yet (or vaio s). though the display on the 13" zen is really nice, probably one of the few really competitive with rmbp, though not in pixel count obviously

No one knows for sure, but size/weight usually translate to larger better all else constant, so that could be the case for the U500 which is slightly thicker than the rMBP. There are a lot of factors and variables that may or may not cause anything...Example: The UX31 is thinner than the MBA, has higher res screen, and yet gets better battery life. However, it is slightly heavier by a an ounce.

Also, the Series 9 15" has a 91whr battery and a 10hr runtime. Of course, this is the one with the IVB CPU

It will hit the stores by early November, but I don't know anything on prices right now.

The battery life in daily use is at about 3.5 hours right now, on Balanced mode with the screen at 60%. But I'm pretty confident the Win 8 drivers are young right now so things should get better in time.

BatteryPro bar for example shows that the system eats 20-22 mAh in idle, which is way too much if you'd ask me...

You Can turn off the external GPU, it's just an extreme pain to do, except it's just one click away with the right addons. Except really, if you're looking to cripple for performance in that way you're probably smart enough to use a linux distro, also the programs you're using without a GPU would be awesome for a linux distro also, so i'd say it'd be the best OS to go for when picking one for an ultrabook.

Also i can bouch for the HP and Samsung ultrabooks, both being extremely good, and exceeding expectations, the battery life on the Series 9 is odd though, occasinally it can last for seemingly silly times, yet other times (On the same battery settings) the time halfs. The Series 9 trumps the HP equivilant for battery life though, but that's just the two that i have, not a series of tests from many laptops, so they could be the odd product sensative problem.

you mean it is possible to do in windows? could you send me a link on how to do it, if it is? i've been looking for info like that.

i've read it's impossible because apple doesn't use the standard optimus drivers. however, yeah it's easy to do in osx. i know there an add on in osx i mean

It'll run D3, Skyrim, SC2 and BF3 probably at over 40fps on ultra. So yes. The UX32VS with GT620M runs those at around 30fps on ultra

Found this in the comments. Really? 620m? How do people post such nonsense? If the 620m can hit 30 fps at medium/720p I'd be surprised. But full-on ultra? I think not.

Good luck with that. At 1080p with max settings my GTX480 sli setup struggles to pull 70fps in crowded or intensive areas. My laptop's GTX675 (a down-clocked desktop GTX560ti) is lucky if it can manage 35fps with the same settings.

I've actually tested D3 on UX32VD and it can run at high details @768p just fine, but for 1080p only low-medium settings achieve 30+ FPS.
