You could also get a cheap nvidian card, 460 or something add it to your mobo and use that for phx with your current amd card.

This forum has instructions on how to do it.

Exactly, for the 200 and extra 150, for $350, you can definitely get a gtx 580 or a 660ti

Keep your 7870, try BL2 with CPU PhysX. If it's not good enough for you, then consider your upgrade options. No need in spending money when you don't need to.

I was actually wondering about exactly the same question today. So I pulled out some of my old GPUs and sadly found out that ROG 9800gt and Alpha Dog 8800gt are dead sad-smiley-002.gif But 8800GTS 512mb was working perfectly fine.

I ran both cards at stock speed, while the E5530 is overclocked to 3.5ghz with HT enabled.

After running Batman AA bench, I found out that game did not really benefit from adding 8800GTS, but it did take significant load off 560Ti and it ran much cooler at 57 FPS average. Running the bench on CPU only, however, destroyed the frame rates, 17 FPS average.

Next I ran Cryostasis TechDemo, and this time around adding 8800GTS did make a difference bringing average FPS from 57.3 to 63. Running the bench on CPU again was horrible, 13.6 FPS average.

Even if assuming that Physx has improved in CPU department with Borderlands 2, it will not go well. So unfortunately, you will have to get a dedicated Physx GPU to pair up with 7850. Ideally you should replace 7850 with Nvidia.

You can buy like a GTS 450 and run it in conjunction with your AMD card. There's a guide here on OCN on how to do it.

Physx Falls flat on its face if you use CPU processing for it.

You would be far better off going green.
