New Gaming Headset- Get in here and advise

Thread Starter
I apologize for making another headset thread, but most the suggestions I have been reading are for open backs, and I just don't want those at this point and time. No matter their superiority over closed back.

My needs

Must be closed back (have a toddler in house)
Quality
Some bass would be nice
Sound Card synergy

I had a a Z6A and let me tell you, when they worked, they were amazing. The headset itself sucked. Their heavy and cheap. Mine didn't even last three months and I had to RMA them. Then the RMA headset broke a week or two ago. Bought these headsets in Feb I think. Instead of RMAing them and getting the same crud back, I will just eat the cost and never buy a Turtlebeach product again (I urge everyone to do the same, but the OCN regulars know this already)

As my needs state above, I want a quality gaming headset with at least some decent bass, because if the Z6A can produce some good bass, there has to be another headset out there that can.

I don't want an open back.

So anyways I don't care if they cost 30 bucks or 150bucks. Throw me some recommendations on some headsets that will actually make it past a year without any issues and sound great.

Thanks

You can probably find Beyerdynamic DT770s for under your price limitation. It's a good closed bassy headphone that's good for gaming, has tons of bass and quality is pretty good overall.

You'll probably find the 80 ohm pro version for sale cheap. Those are a good one to go with.

Thanks for the reply,

I'm liking the review on those 80ohms version. Will have to keep an eye out on them. Only thing I don't like is that reviewers say they're heavy which I hated about the Z6As.

http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AUD-ATH-A700-Technica-Headphones/dp/B000E9VKUQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347078836&sr=8-1&keywords=Audio+Technica+A700

How do those ^ compare to the beyerdynamic 80ohms? Do they work with a sound card? I see just the headphone normal plug in.

They're really two very different headphones. I'd say the Beyer's are more bass oriented while the A700s are more gaming/vocal oriented.

Depends what kind of music you want to listen to, but know the A700s really aren't that bassy. They're really bass light actually.

Hmm will have to dwell on it then. I listen to all kinds of music, staying away from rap and country.

I do a lot of FPS gaming as well as action/RPG/MMO/third person shooters. Sometimes I am 'forced' to watch the movies I want to on my computer too so I want decent movie quality there.

Looks like a tough choice ahead for me. I could probably go without bass, but I just hate the cheaper filler sound that a lot of headsets produce like they're having a hard time producing the lows.

I have AD700s and have tried my friends A700s the bass on both is extremely weak. They are however extremely comfortable, even if they do make you look ridiculous. A900s are a better choice, for closed they have a bit more bass.

Haven't tried Beyerdynamic but they are going to be my next purchase. They are supposed to put out a lot of bass. Getting DT 990s myself.

Grab a noise canceling clip on mic, and sleeve the two cords together and boom gaming headset.

Yeah I've been sliding to getting a quality headset and a seperate mic. I mean I did do that with the Recon3d sound card (it comes with a mic) but I just couldn't set up that mic worth a damn.

^ looking at that too.

My main concern is finding a headset that is great on mids but bad on lows, and vice versa. Seems like the A700 has horrible bass and the A900 is advertised with better bass but does that mean mids suffer in the return?

Liking the first review there on Amazon for your mention headset, but I am just weary of buying another brand of cheap headphones like my Turtlebeach. I paid 78 dollars for those on Amazon and my 12dollar plantronics have lasted years over the 'premium' gaming headset.

No. The a900s do not suffer in the mid as you would expect. The lows are also pretty good. The price is not great but the isolation is very good. It's 200 dollars.
