USB Keyboard - How to make it work properly in PS/2 port?

whats good ocn?

i just bought a new keyboard (USB) and i used to have the PS/2 one. problem is, this keyboard only works on USB and Windows only. i already have the adapter (USB female to PS/2 male) but it doesn't seem to work. i really need to make it work on PS/2 because i can't access the BIOS or make selection of my OS's on boot up. only my previous keyboard can do that. tia.

Why did you replace your old key board? Was it not working? Perhaps the ps/2 port is bad. Why can you not use this keyboard in a USB slot?

Not all keyboards support the USB to PS/2 adapter. Sounds like yours is one that does not. If you can plug in your old keyboard to change settings in the BIOS, try turning on legacy USB support or something along those lines, to try and get the keyboard working on boot.

I think there's an adapter called "blue cube" that will make any USB keyboard work in a PS/2 port, but you'll have to look that up yourself as I have no experience with it.

i just wanted a new one. having it connected in USB would not let me access the BIOS or select my OS's because the keyboard does not work on POST. it only works when im on Windows.

Most of these USB keyboards have specialized chips in them and need a few seconds to start-up, I have had 2 mechanical keyboards, 1 from CM and 1 from TT and what I do for them to work is to initialize them first, here are the steps I used on my gigabyte z68x:

1.) Disable Quick Boot

2.) Delay HDD start-up for 4 seconds

3.) Disable Full Screen BIOS Start-up (So you can see your HDDs being initialized)

During the BIOS/CMOS boot, I press DEL repeatedly until I get to my BIOS.

Hope this helps.

Don't bother.

PS/2 is as obsolete as the OCN's Mechanical Guide keyboard list.

What motherboard do you have?
Some motherboards have usb ports specifically dedicated for bios ie mouse and keyboard.
my asus board has 2 usb ports that I have to use if I want keyboard or mouse to work or use the ps/2 port which isnt exactly obsolete on a Z77 board...

Some people report their USB 3.0 ports don't allow you to get into the BIOS.

I haven't tried that on my ASUS yet.

Unlike many OCN'rs I don't spend much time in my UEFI.
