I keep getting this error when booting up:

S.M.A.R.T. status bad backup and replace error

So does this mean I have to RMA my hard drive?

yeah, it means dont let the computer turn off until you have backed up/ or/ your HD might not survive another spin down+up... yeah back everything up and buy a new HD

Man you have some BAD luck with that hard drive. Seagate's usally last a long time. Good thing for the 5 year warranty

Seagate RMA
I know! I heard Seagate's are rarely defective.

Already sent an RMA request though

Does anyone know how to RMA with Seagate? I'm having a hard time. I tried doing it online and it won't let me login. When I both emailed and called they told me I didn't have to login for US region (but I'm in Canada... does that count?)
AND THEN I called today and they said they're having problems with the servers and to call Sales.

I call Sales and they're closed. Only open Monday to Friday from 9 to 5
I work from 8 to 5. I leave home at 6 and get home at 6:30.

I had to RMA a Seagate drive, and I was able to do an express-exchange type thing. It was all online, no problems. I got the drive in 2 days, and sent the bad one out in the same box the new one came in.

And when I refer to the "new" drive it was refurbished.

I'd rather not call from work. I could always wait until I finish my work term and such. That'll be in December though

They sent you a refurbished drive as new???
