Hi all,

I have a home server at the minute, but its nearly 7 years old. I'm talking about the CPU only, the others are all new.

So the current CPU is an E6400 but since it's LGA775 its not compatible with new chips. I currently use this home server to store movies and tv shows and stream it to my media devices, as well as hosting a Minecraft server for 6 people.

However I would like to host a 10 person CS:GO server on that PC as well, and the current system is struggling to even encode 720p files.

The specifications below is about the computer that I'm talking about.

CPU: E6400
MOBO: Asus P5QL Pro
RAM: Kingston DDR2 800Mhz 4GB x2
GPU: NVIDIA Colorful 9800GT
Storage: 1.5TB WD Green 5400RPM
Case: Antec One S


Any possible suggestions of a new CPU?

That's a different story then...with $500 you're better off buying a whole new platform.

There's a Q12X aka i7 2600k ES and its approximately 160 USD, should I get that instead? Also, the gigabyte motherboard that you chose is significantly more expensive than the ASRock EX4, and theres like no difference between the gigabyte and the ASRock.
