Or check out high res released with witcher 2 vs non highres on the console. If you cant see the difference I really do feel sorry for you. Seems a waste to get such a pretty rig to run such low res games. rolleyes.gif
And here I would like you to take a read. http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/pc/2011/03/25/crysis-2-xbox-360-vs-pc-comparison/1

I don't know whether it's intentional or not but you just keep missing the point. You bringing up high res texture packs made by developers is like totally irrelevant. And the issue is that I'm not going to argue with someone who refuses to hear what I'm saying. There's no point in trying to discuss an issue with someone who is so blind with platform loyalty they can't have a conversation.

So yeah. Have a good one.

Just to reiterate this conversation got started by someone saying his sempron/5770 combo spit out better visuals then consoles do. Seeing how that combo can't max out really any modern game and the gap between console graphics and PC graphics is the smallest it's ever been (despite console hardware being seven eyars old at this point) I highly doubt it. Especially when you take into account a list of the twenty best looking games out right now includes several console only titles.

So you are welcome to keep bringing up high res texture packs but that really doesn't have to do with anything I'm saying.

Dont believe I have twisted your words at all. Hard to take this out of context.

Well then lets start from the top.
You said
Quote:
As far as the rest of your post texture quality is almost uniformly the same across console and PC versions.
So Ill bring up pc can support higher res textures which will not be uniformly the same across all versions. But you bring up an article about digital foundrys finding of how it is the same. Fair enough. Then I brought in a video from the same people comparing the FPS between a 300 euro pc and an xbox which is pretty much the same price. The pc was able to render the same textures according to you with 40 fps on average. The console on the other hand stayed at 30 and sometimes dipping down. So conclusion to this argument a cheap pc will be able to beat a console. If you want to see the video again please go on ahead and go back to my reply. Not only that Mass Effect 3 lagged.

Quote:
Some people like to nitpick resolution and AA (And I'm a huge fan of high quality AA myself) but these people are simply blinded by platform loyalty or have bad eye sight.
Here you mention resolutions and AA, and I provided a video of sleeping dogs to show you the difference of how much AA can affect a game along with resolution and higher res textures. And no I did not twist your words you so said people are blind.
Quote:
And please try not confusing higher res textures don't neccesarily look better with higher res textures never looking better.
So I do try to show you the difference of having higher res textures but somehow it is very hard for you to comprehend or see the difference. Am I missing something here, is a gif required or something? But last time I checked a high res mod for nearly every game makes quite a bit of difference. Heck even the 360 offered a high res pack for bf3. If it wasnt so important why include it? Why such high demands amongst gamers for better textures?

Ontop of that you even claim uncharted 3 is better then any pc game. rolleyes.gif

The point I made was that you can do a PC atm for the price of a console which beats the console in visual quality and quantity. Yeah, it's not your 1000$ enthusiast rig, but it still beats the crap out of current gen console. Ignoring, for a second, that it can use higher resolution textures and assuming the texture quality is exactly the same then it is still running at higher resolution, higher frame rate and has AA. You can spin it like you want but these are cold hard facts.

Speaking about Battlefiled, yeah it will not run it on "ultra", but it will run it at better visual quality at 60 fps.

I truly believe that you're wrong...at least in most markets. In the US, a 4GB XBox 360 is $180 including OS, input devices, and all cables/adapters/etc. Show me a $180 PC build (using NEW parts). As far as a desktop is concerned, the OS is $65. Keyboard and mouse are another $25. So, show me a desktop build that can be had for $90 for the case, HDD, CPU, GPU, mobo, RAM and can STILL play Skyrim, BF3, etc.

And then, to prove myself even more: Xbox 360 released at $300. Show me a build for $300 (including windows, keyboard, and mouse) that was available seven years ago that can play BF3 now, or a $300 PC (including windows, keyboard, and mouse) that can even ATTEMPT to play the games that will be released in 7 years. The XBox 360 was meant for 10 years. I'm making it easy and calling it 7.

You also have to contend with cables. Many TV's don't support HDMI or VGA. However, they almost all support component cables. Add a monitor, too.

Another thing is this: you're a person wanting to buy a gaming something for your kid. What do you do, spend tons of time researching/obsessing about 1333 vs 1600 ram or do you get an XBox 360 and call it a day? How about for all the 12-year-olds or people that aren't tech savvy that shouldn't have to reflash their GPU BIOS to keep everything up-to-date. With XBox, you try and play a game and it gets grumpy and says you need to update....you wait for the install, and then go on about your day.

So, I'm not hating on desktops. I have more than $200 invested in mine. I have a 360, PS3, and Wii as well. What system did I just purchase Borderlands2 for? PC. When was the last time I picked up a 360 game? Can't remember. On PC? I played 4 different ones yesterday. I'm just saying consoles have their place. Also, if it weren't for console gamers pouring cash into the industry, PC gaming wouldn't be close to where it's at now.

sigh

I was going to write something, then I realized it just wasn't worth it.

I can't believe people even compare PCs to consoles when the only thing they have in common is THAT YOU CAN PLAY GAMES ON THEM.

And how on Earth did PCs get into a thread that is CLEARLY LABELLED AS CONSOLE NEWS in the first place.

Also, if it weren't for console gamers pouring cash into the industry, PC gaming wouldn't be close to where it's at now.

I was talking more specifically about Estonia. In here the entry level XBox version is approx 200 and entry level PS3 is approx 225 euro. The same trend tends to hold for rest of the EU. I'm not that familiar with the US market, however, considering that you guys seem to have better prices over there for a computer hardware parts as well I'm sure it's possible to come up with a similar setup for lets say, about a ~200$. The PC config I linked earlier (sempron + ATI 5770) can be had roughly for that price as far as hardware goes. So far I was specifically considering only the hardware. Now if we start taking into account also the OP system needed then we should also take into account the price difference between the console and PC games. I think it would take approx 5 games to "break even" in software section against console assuming one is not waiting for the PC versions to go on sale so the price difference should be roughly 15 euros per game.

I have never claimed that 7 to 10 years ago one could do a PC that was substantially better than a console for the same price. My claim was that such things started to be possible approx 3 years ago if you got a good deal on a sale and that today I can do it with off the shelf parts from the PC store at nearest supermarket. Its a effect clearly highlighting that current gen consoles are rather venerable hardware wise.

Monitor was not part of the price, however, if you insist that I should include also a display I would have to insist that console should also include an TV wink.gif On a more serious note a dongle for getting composite signal out of a VGA is about 3$ or so (for example, http://dx.com/p/vga-to-s-video-and-3rca-f-cable-9813?item=16). For the HDMI to composite + vga adbater you would need to shell out about 10$. Connecting a TV to a PC is really not an issue nowadays even if you really still are using something THAT old that it does not have HDMI input.

As far as simplicity goes thats the selling point of consoles and no competition in here. For the average Joe console is a lot simpler if they really don't feel like reading the manual. If the human has functional reading ability (ie., ability to comprehend texts which are longer than couple of sentences) then building a PC is really not an issue. As far as flashing GPU BIOS goes, though that a bit far fetched example in my opinion. How often do you need to do it ? I, for example, have not needed to do it ever over the past ~15 years or so when I have used PC's. Sure I have done it out of curiocity (flashing a 5770 into a 6770) but I really did not need to do it.

I'm not hating consoles, loving PC's or whatever. All I'm doing is pointing out that current gen consoles are already so old that the PC is starting to be a better alternative. I'm thinking that once the next gen releases then at least for a start consoles should regain their "value" for a little while in the sense that they would offer a more powerful hardware than you can put into a PC box for the same price. As far as claiming that console gamers are subsding the PC gamers .. dunno ... I kinda tend to like more Indie games so I'm pretty sure I could live without next COD or similar. It did not take consoles to invent Counter Strike so I think PC gaming would not be off a lot worse nor a lot better. Perhaps there would be less "major publishers" and more of the old names, like Bullfrog or Blue Byte or Team 7 would be around instead of being shut down by the major publishers bcos their IP was not "mainstream enough".
