How to PC shops earn money? - Page 2

As someone who is starting out as a home ran repair center it is hard to break into the market.

Many people do not need repairs, think about what we do to our computers here on OCN, 90% of the population would never see a point or a need to try. When a computer is ran at stock everything, they are extremely reliable now.

Laptops are the new money maker. They are soft and breakable. But also, as previously mentioned, they are cheap to replace.

Where I try to stand apart from others is in honesty and education. I am not scared to tell someone the truth and have no fear in teaching them something new.

It is a matter of making a name for yourself, and not be narrow minded or visioned.

The two biggest challenges in the PC repair industry are getting off the ground and doing good work. Once you get your first set of customers you either do a good job and get referrals or you don't. People will spend money on their computers (contrary to the replace it mentally technically saavy people claim) because they don't like change. An honest, genuine and skilled PC repair store can do more than survive in today's market, it can thrive. The retail side is basically just a secondary part of the business; something to attract people.

I run a Managed Service Provider that used to have a service center where we would support residential clients. We sold it because it's just easier to stick with b2b, but the employee's we sold it to are next door and thriving. People are dying to find someone they can trust, just like a mechanic, plumber, or any other service industry.

No they're not we get tons of desktops with all kind of problems. OEMs skimp big time they also save a lot of money by skimping on stuff. For the longest while and still, one i think is are atrocious PSUs with almost no amperage on the 12v. The old Pentium 4 dells area great example with the crappy besttech power supplies.
