by pump power, he means pump pressure efficiency, not wattage

with a t-line you can recycle some of the head pressure up to a point making the loop more efficient, when you use a res you sacrifice that efficiency for bleeding convenience. . .

honestly you don't gain much by running a t-line over a res, the convenience out weighs the benefit of pump efficiency, well in my opinion at least

someblade, are you talking about actualy pressurizing the res.? or losing the ability to run the flow off your T-line back into your loop somewhere. In any case,I always run a res.with an overkill pump so not an issue for me but I was wondering what was being described.

Worry? Not so much... just cognizant that you're introducing more oxygen and ions to the system than normal. If someone puts Nemo in there or pours the left-over Drano into it, you can be worried.

Think about the pump in a closed system. Water doesn't really compress much, so you can think of the pump pushing itself or pushing halfway and pulling the other half. When you have the loop open to the air, whatever pressure was left-over from the pump pushing is simply dissapated by swirling around in the reservoir.

Im also new to water cooling but I see adapers sold for reducing air bubbles. I think those are used mostly in smaller res units but like i said this is not my area of expertise. Could someone with experience chime in on this as I was wondering also.

Im sorry i didnt mean to sidetrack the thread.. its late. I like the op where he teased you about the photos i was guessing a milk or water jug. I like it for a quick lowdown functioning solution to get the macine back online asap. Just wait till christmass the big boys will be selling Ghetto mod computers, it will be the latest rage like old jeans. ( that is a joke ) but you never know.

this is a fluid dynamics problem/principal. . . increasing the size of the flow channel always causes pressure drop, then when you include drawing the fluid through an orifice also causes a pressure drop

there are other factors i don't feel much like explaining, but inline reses are more convenient at the cost of efficiency, and t-lines or res-less system are more efficient at the cost of convenience

i'm sure someone could design a low pressure drop res that balances the two pretty good, but it won't look pretty and since water cooling is pretty much overkill for your average user water cooling has tended towards aesthetics over efficiency/performance so there really isn't a place for such a res

It depends on the size of the orfice,a small one can cause a pressure increase.Think of your thumb over the end of a garden hose, this could be considered an orfice and we sure do see the effects of a pressure increase.I have to say these "t-line increasing the efficency of a pump" explaination is not going so well.

In most reservoirs, the water going into the res does not directly flow into the pump, but instead just swirls around. Any head pressure from the pump is then lost. By introducing a t-line, there is a constant flow of water and the head pressure from the pump is "recycled", which increases the total head pressure. For example, my res has the same concept and helps to increase head pressure:

The intake from the front, goes through a little tube and the pressurized water goes straight into the pump.

On topic: I'm also curious about dust and whatnot getting into an open res like that. It looks great for flushing if you had a drain line somewhere in your loop.

I could see the dust and air problem working better if, say, you take a jug of distilled water and punch te holes for barbs then. Leave the cap on it. No residue from milk/draino/whatever was there last plus no dust as it is sealed. Cheap, quick, effective.

It's a good quick measure to get by until you get a new reservoir, but if you wanted a large external reservoir, I'm of the opinion that you'd might as well go one step further and turn it into a bong cooler.
