Mouse has tracking troubles on multi-coloured pads, If you has small-medium hands it is palm or claw grip mouse. For large handed people only claw, go and buy ec1 if you want to palm.

What makes the i5 better? is it worth a 100$ more?
I am thinking of flipping my custom so i can build a better one
is the i5worth the extra 100$

What makes the 3870K great is the GPU. Without the GPU its not that great.

I would only go the 2500K route if you plan to also nab a decent GPU.
