I had this issue with my last headset to, and the speakers that I have to.

In games, I'm going to use Skyrim as an example, whenever I talk to someone, if I face them they are very quiet, but if I turn away they get louder. I think there is something wrong with my surround sound settings in my driver settings also when i go to properties i cannot update my drivers which are from 2/11/11. the box is grayed out and the only option i have is driver details which gives me a bunch of files. Yet, I have messed with the realtek driver setting everywhere and I still have the same problem.

Do you think it could be the onboard sound?

Any help would be great, thanks!
