[PCW] To avoid Galaxy ban, Samsung says Android's multitouch software is not as good as Apple's

Samsung has claimed that the way Android's multitouch software works is not as good as Apple's, in a bid to avoid a recall and ban on sales of its Android smartphones in a patent dispute with Apple in the Netherlands.
Quote:
While Apple's technology is a "very nice invention," the technique used in Android differs from the iOS solution, argued Bas Berghuis van Woortman, one of Samsung's lawyers. Because the Android based method is more hierarchical the system is more complex and therefore harder for developers to use, he said.

Well atleast they don't lie as they do steal.

More complex and harder to develop for does not equate to worse. If anything, the opposite.

With JB I disagree. I had a Nexus 7 for a day before I returned it and side by side with my iPad 2 they were just as smooth. With ICS I can definitely see where they are coming from though.

True.
It is a good thing the truth comes out, and the rights prevail...

So I don't get how Samsung's lawyers miss things like this: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/09/technology/companies/09apple.html
Quote:
Samsung also claimed that Apple's touch event model patent is invalid because it is very similar to other technology and thus not a new invention.

Nevermind, guess they didn't miss it. At that point if the courts still rule against Samsung it's a fail system as a whole.
Quote:
The case is the second time Apple has made a claim against Samsung in the Netherlands using the touch event model patent. Apple was denied an injunction on Samsung's products in preliminary proceedings regarding the patent at the Court of the Hague last year.

The German court will rule on Apple's claims against Samsung and Motorola for the multitouch patent on Sept. 21. The U.K court ruled that Samsung does not infringe Apple's patent.

Judge Blok said he would closely read the German verdict to judge whether it is relevant to the Dutch case. The Hague court will deliver its judgment Oct. 24, Blok said.

Honestly I will never understand the legal system. How is Samsung liable for any patent infringement done by Google/Android?

what judge/jury thinks:
Apple: america
samsung: korea
ban samsung=more money yo apple=more money to america
and then comes the reality..:
Apple: chinese
Samsung=korean
ban samsung= significantly less competition in market, other companies starts patenting circles, triangles...etc for future lawsuits

Their product uses the technology, so it infringes on their patent. (At least they claim). It's Samsung's choice to use Android on their product. Apple is simply targeting only Samsung as they are their biggest competitor that is dominating them year after year now and have a much faster paced release cycle. Apple clearly doesn't like that. wink.gif

Yep Yep. They have to realize they're playing with fire though. I don't think this'll end well for anyone.
