Cooler Master 212+/Evo vs Phantek PH-TC14PE vs Stock

Which cooler? My plans are to clock to 4.5 just to do it, run at less than 4.2 for photoshop and bf3, and try to go for 5.0 to see if I can do it. Also will the cooler fit in my rig:

Rosewill Blackhawk Case, Asus P8Z77-V mobo, and i5-3570k

Edited: I have a spot for a fan mounted to the case on the backside of the motherboard, any thoughts on using that as well?

Well, a 212+ wont get you to 5.0 on IB. Unless you get one that can do it on... 1.25v~ or less.

The phanteks looks like it was made right. It can handle the high heat output quite well.

Stock is considered the be "enough" to run the cpu at stock speeds.
I don't think any of those will get a 3570K to 5.0. Ivy bridge is pretty hot.

Try a Noctua NH-D14, I know some people don't like the fan color, but it's easy to replace them. I got a D14 withstock fans and I'm really happy.

I don't doudt that the Noctua NH-D14 is a very good cooler, but at Newegg the White Phantek is $10 cheaper than the Noctua and Blue is $2 less and Red is same price. To bad no Black at Newegg and Orange is not part of deal. frown.gif

Phanteks actually cool slightly better than D14. wink.gif
Fans are not PWM... but the supplied PWM adapter and splitter make 100% PWM functional. thumb.gif

White is the new black. whistle.gif

I would trade red for white any day. Would look better in my R2 case biggrin.gif

And would look real classy with red TY-143 fans. tongue.gif

Edit:
If you have an extra fin give it a try. A slow speed fan on back sure can't hurt and may help.

After reading some of the reviews, it sounds like I might have to remove the side fan to fit in the Phantek. So, then I will have a fan that would fit to go in that spot and does the fan blow towards the board or pull air out of case. But, first I will have to measure to make sure that it will fit. ANY suggestions on how to measure the max clearence between CPU and side of case.

Don't have the CPU ordered yet (I am going IVY, so don't say go with SANDY), but do have the MOBO mounted in case. Can get to the back side of board through hole in MOBO tray.

.

There are 2 possible clearance issues. RAM and side cover... (well, new SA SB-E is so wide it can interfere with nearest PCI slot}

Ram to side cover needs to be same or bigger than fan size.

CPU to side cover needs to be same or bigger than cooler & fan.

I use a straight edge on side of case fit to surfaces side cover fits on and measure from CPU or RAM. I then subtract whatever thickness material on side cover is and the resulting figure is your clearance.

Edit: I usally use a stick and mark it with a pencil on case side of straight edge., then measure that length wink.gif

Yeah, your ram is fine.
What does your CPU to side cover measure? The protective cover on CPU socket is pretty close to same as CPU will be. wink.gif
