Reciever for SB-1000

So I have a set of Sony SS-B1000 speakers hooked up to a Lepai Tripath but when i turn it up the bass sounds like crap and it rattles. So Im guessing its because the lepai doesnt power these speakers enough.

So Im looking at the Sony STR-DH100 reciever. will this be a good upgrade or not worth it?

Hello there, the problem you may be having is that your speakers are rated at 120-Watts, and maybe your receiver doesn't put out enough power? (You didn't really list the model name of the receiver so I only have Lepai Tripath to go off of which is a pretty broad selection.)


Also your speakers are only rated for 80-50,000Hz. This means that your speakers don't output any audio below the 80Hz, which could be why you think that the audio sounds like garbage. Bass in general is 20Hz-400Hz, which leaves you with 60Hz lost.

As always, you are better off going with a dedicated sub woofer, instead of pushing all the audio to the two speakers that don't support just over 1/6 of the range that a dedicated sub would.
