I just got a new View sonic lcd hd monitor. I tried to watch a dvd but it still had the black bars! ***? I thought wide screen got rid of those stupid black bars. I use power DVD to play DVDs, is there something in the settings I can change?

Widescreen PC monitors use the aspect ratio of 16:10 instead of the normal NTSC 16:9 TVs. There really is no way to change this unless you want to put your resolution at something that is 16:9.

Why you all wan't widescreen? How about normal 4:3? What displays rule in here? 17" - 19" not more...i still dunno if i really need widescreen. For games and internet work...and 300$ or less. In PC world they putted NEC MultiSync 90GX2 on the first place...is it good? Cos Samsung SyncMaster 205BW is 20" widescreen and even a few bucks cheeper...

Widescreen is the future, most games do support this now aswell and you get a better view of what your doing in everything.
It's only EA that hasn't sorted it yet, even CS1.6 has widescreen support.

Dont buy from PCWorld, go get it from an online retailer like ebuyer. Also ask on here.

To talk about the black lines you should be able to set the video to full screen zoom to use the whole screen. Unfortunatley i cannot advise you on how to do it as i only watch DVD's on a TV

Widescreen rules! Once you have one, you'll never go back. You can get this excellent 19" widescreen at newegg for under $200:

1440x900 is also 16x9. I usually run at 1680x1050 resolution though because it looks nice.

The Dell E207WFP is a great 20" Widescreen for less than $300.

Here are all the resolutions and there aspect ratios. I play at 1360x768 which is 720p which is also 16x9. I bet there is a way for PowerDVD to figure this out for you, I do not recommend doing a zoom on it as that will usually fuzz the picture.
