Need INSTANT Help with my H100!

Thread Starter
Okay guys, I installed my H100 and I have a few questions.

How do I know if my pump is working? The LED is on but I'm not sure if that indicates a working pump.

Which screws do I use for the LGA1155? Like the ones that screw to the backplate? Is it the longer or shorter one?

Also, my temps are so much higher than my H80, why is this? My H80 used to keep my CPU at 75C Load, now it's 85C load. I'm guessing a bad seat so I'm going to re-seat in a bit.

THANK YOU!

Okay, there's this one 4 pin (there's only two pins in it) thing that comes from the pump, do I need to connect that? Also, do I need to connect the 3 pin? By do I need to means is it necessary and what do they do?

Can you answer my other questions also?

I believe it's a safe bet that your pump is working if your CPU isn't throttling under load.

I haven't tried attaching it to a 1155 socket, only 2011, and I don't have the backplate on.

Assuming you haven't messed with clocks since switching from H80, I'd suggest reseating the block.

Edit: Also, the 2 wires from the pump are for the fan hub built into the pump and the other is for the pump itself, but which is which I don't remember.

Ok, I guess I ruled out the pump not working. I will reseat and actually add an exhaust fan on the back panel. God, this is just annoying. 10C increase from an H80? How is that possible?!?!?!?

I will post my results in a bit.

It controlls the pump speed and probably is connected through the fans to tell if the pump needs to push more or less water through. So yes whatever it comes with plug it in, why wouldn't you?

Well, if the blocks are both seated properly, no clock changes, and everything working like it should, I don't think it is possible tongue.gif

The molex connector with 2 pins are for powering the pump and the fan headers on the pump. The 3 pin fan connector (which actually on has 1 pin) is just for outputting pump speed to some motherboards that may not boot properly due to no connected CPU fan. The 3 pin fan connector serves no other purpose. Just make sure the molex connector is plugged into your power supply.

Ok, I just re-seated and my temps dropped a good 5C. Although it's still about 6C higher than my H80. I wonder why? It's only Pull, but does this make a huge difference? Also would running at low to mid 80s degrade CPU life considerably?

I really don't understand this at all. Temps of 75 (H80) and 85 (H100)? The review at Anandtech has them at 51.9 (H80) and 48.6 (H100) under load on high. Understanding that there are many variables, ambient temp being a big one, these temps seem to be out of whack from the get go for either the H8 or H100. As a matter of fact, I gotta ask why bother with the expense of systems like these for those temps?
Could it be that the real issue is not the difference between the H80 and the H100 at all, but the overall temps themselves? Are the units working correctly, installed correctly? I am mostly asking as I just don't get such high temps with a liquid cooling setup of any kind.
