7950 Vapor X Voltage Locked?

Hi

I've read on another forum from a member who has the 7950 Vapor X that the card is voltage locked. Can any owners of this card confirm if it's true as I've never heard of this before especially with AMD cards?

It's this card:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-304-SP

Additionally, I thought the 7950's with the 7970 reference PCB's were black but the one in the picture shows it as blue, does that mean that this card is on the 7950 PCB even though it's 6+8 pin?

Thanks

The HD 7950 Vapor-X uses a custom HD 7970 PCB. the card with brown color reference HD 7970 PCB is the sapphire HD 7950 950 Mhz edition.

But as far as I have heard the Sapphire HD 7950 Vapor-X is not voltage locked. you can check with ocn users who have purchased the HD 7950 Vapor-x card.

biggrin.gif Yes you were.

I just want to know from other owners of the Vapor X if theirs were also voltage locked as it seems odd that AMD/Sapphire would do that.

Being one of the best AMD partners with really good designs it really sucks that sapphire is locking the voltage on the HD 7950 Vapor-X. mad.gif

Oh damn, that really sucks =/
Why are they doing this mad.gif
Seems to be a problem with newer manufactured AMD cards. Though I ordered one this doesn't really bother me. As they've already got a sizable amount of overclock headroom on stock voltages.

I've also got this problem. The only way I've found to bypass it is to force constant voltage in Afterburner and that really ins't ideal.
