7950 Vapor X Voltage Locked? - Page 11

It seems the maximum my Vapor X can go is:

1100/1520 @ 1114V. This gives a max temp of 67, max fan profile at 50, which is around 2000rpm. At this profile I find the noise acceptable.

However, benching using those in Unigene 1080p 4AA, Normal Tess. I get: 65.6FPS. Min 44.3 Max 138.7. It's like the card doesn't like increasing performance when I go over 60 degrees. If I up the volts in case their isn't enough voltage it doesn't make a difference. My PSU is a Seasonic Platinum 860W.

The reason I say this is because at

1040/1520 @ 1044V I get 68.3FPS Min 45.5 Max 143.3. 61 degrees.

I'm using the latest WHQL 12.8 Drivers and the card's ASIC FWIW is 89.4%.

I don't like this card one bit unfortunately. My 7850 HIS IceQX which cost £100 less gave 60FPS in Unigene using the same settings, considering it's price it was much more value for money.

I did flash using the Sapphire 7970 bios and I get the same results when overclocking.

Maybe I should consider the Windforce 7950 or just get the GTX670. But I am after a card which offers good value for money taking into mind it's performance vs cost. So I don't know where to go from here.

OP if you aren't satisfied with the card return it and get a refund. the other options are gigabyte HD 7950 windforce or HIS Iceq HD 7950 boost or sapphire hd 7950 950 mhz edition. all these cards have good coolers suited for voltage overclocking.

I've managed to unlock the voltage on my 7950 Vapor-X and everything seems to be running fine thumb.gif
I did what someone in the thread suggested and flashed the card with the 7970 Vapor-X bios smile.gif
Everything is working fine - though the fan profile on this bios is much more aggressive than the normal one tongue.gif Nothing I can't handle though smile.gif

did you guys increase the memory voltage to get those awesome mem clocks?

I gave up waiting for the Vapor X to come back in stock. I ordered the Gigabyte WF3 GTX 670 from Newegg today for $360. The Vapor X would have been a bit cheaper but it is only competetive with the 670 if it overclocks to @1100mhz. I know most will be able to do that which is why I was waiting for it to come back in stock. Since it hasn't come back in stock and the promotion code on the 670 was ending today I decided to just get the 670. Also, I've had my GTX 460s listed on Ebay and the second one sold today. So I had to order a new card immediately!

You got a good card, as you probably know mine was artefacting at stock volts and on the boost bios so I decided to dsr it today. The games I play are more favoured towards nvidia cards, so I reluctantly went down the green team route. However, I'm just itching to play games and two windforce 670's should keep me happy for a long time. smile.gif

Awesome thumb.gif I probably would have gone with the green team if their pricing was more reasonable.
Hope you have no problems with your new setup tongue.gif

I assume it's a non-boost 7970 vapor-x smile.gif
Stock clocks are 1000/1450.
I flashed the bios using AtiFlash thumb.gif

i've tried to install this bios but as soon as i do that it screws up my gpu and makes the driver stop recognizing it as an "AMD HARDWARE"......guess the 7970 vapor-x users are out of luck this time ?!
