7950 Vapor X Voltage Locked? - Page 3

I can't believe that the Vapor-X is showing up as discontinued on newegg.com. The card was only out a couple weeks, if that.

Hmm You guys think I should rma my 7950 vapor-x?
It works fine except that it seems to be voltage locked
post #26 of 1046
have any of you guys tried RBE and power states n stuff?
I had to find the right driver/trixx combination for my gpu..My suggestion is..get the guy who says he has voltage control..
and find out what drivers + trixx he is using.
or..try to flash to 7970 thumbsupsmiley.pngninja.gif

Hi guys,

This is my first post. I read this page whist trying to figure out how to unlock the voltage. Here's what to do:

Flash the Vapor X to 7970 Bios 1100 - 1450 (Sapphire)

Here: http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/index.php?page=1&architecture=ATI&manufacturer=Sapphire&model=HD+7970&interface=&memSize=0

Then I OCed to 1100 -1600 stable at 1.056 Volts (increase each setting by 50 and run a test)

Unigine *8 *16 Extreme Tess

1224 (48.6 av - 26.1 low - 119.9 high)

An Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 2GB @ 1006 - 6008 scores 46.6 @ 1080 same settings (I presume @ stock).

3D Mark

GRAPHICS SCORE
8626

Not too bad... and total stable without a voltage increase.

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts...ance,2932.html

The Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 Toxic 6GB Lethal Boost is rated at 8421 (I guess its not clocked!!!). I'm happy with the card now.

It really needs the new bios.

It runs @ 76 degrees under load.

I'll be buying a waterblock for it before I volt it up.

To increase voltage use Trixx.

how did you flash your card? would this work on the 7970 vapor-x and let me control the voltage without having to force constant voltage in msi afterburner ? thanks

The voltage on my 7950 vapor-x will sometimes revert back to 975, even when I'm forcing constant voltage. I'd like to be able to set a maximum and then have it drop down, rather than having to force constant voltage. I have a feeling that the problems will be fixed when updates can be made to the software, rather than there being a problem with the card itself.

only work around is as you stated FORCE fixed voltage on all moods i.e ( 2d/base/boost ), hope this post was helpful and reaching out to the developers of trixx and afterburner PLEASE give us an update with fixed voltage control for the newer 7970's/7950's ( cards with boost mood )

So if we disable boost we can control the voltage? Surely that's the best option, Surely with voltage control you would be able to go over 950mhz anyway?
