7950 Vapor X Voltage Locked? - Page 24

Nope, both bios. It needs a raised power limit to run at stock 850MHz :? I wonder if it is really pulling the power though, because the temps are abysmal for such low clocks. Very loud.

Probably gonna RMA. fan grinds beyond 80% as well...

I had similar throttling issue with my card, Sapphire 7950 Vapor-X. Then I noticed that gpu voltage rised up to 1.25v under load reaching 80C+ temps with the default non boost bios @850MHz. I couldn't resolve the issue. Then I switched to Boost bios with 950MHz and then then gpu voltage stayed at 1.056v under load with temps of 65C. So at least in my card the normal bios is unusable. When you have the boost bios with 950MHz enabled you may need to increase the power tune if you don't want the card to throttle back under any circumstances.

Unfortunately that isnt the problem for me, it was one of the first things I checked for even before the throttling issue was noticed.

It runs .8v idle, 1.0-1.08 under load. I tried setting it lower as well, like .9v under load just for Lolz, but it froze up.

Ill try a different bios if Sapphire support tells me that wont void warranty. Maybe it just has the power limit too low? IDK.

I don't think trying new bios will void anything. They encourage it by giving you a "save bios" button in trixx. Lol I lost the original bios on mine and just loaded the boost on both. I got free return shipping from newegg and got a full refund with no restocking fee. Mine didn't have near the amount of problems yours seems to be having either.

Anyone can send me first bios for 7950 vapor-x (just press "save bios" button in trixx) and put here som attachement, thanks!

OK, need more copies, because there is 2 versions of vapor-x, and bios from ver.1 just give me Blue Screen at booting.

Now sitting on constant 950mhz nonboosted 1.056v bios (from sapphire 7950oc 950mhz edition),
and have gpu clocked to 1100mhz.
Have also another bios 950mhz nonboosted 1.031v
But want to have oryginal from vapor-x, because those two have another fan curve from dual-x versions

Gpu bios update in same fashion as a mobo bios with one exception, getting proper version.i LL use 5770,they made lot of version of this bios and rarely one is compatible with the other.gpu or other component bios rarely get updated.i did my 5770,its a drag but it's an intentional drag.once done updating? Make sure to relock it!
