7950 Vapor X Voltage Locked? - Page 52

To Lordryder Post 505

My set up which is described here:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1303929/7950-vapor-x-voltage-locked/470

does exactly the same......... i.e. I have to set at least 15% on the CCC Power setting to avoid clock switching from 950 mhz to 850 mhz.
Awesome, thanks a ton JUZTIQ - I was so stupid that I had thought HWINFO andHWMonitor were the same thing.

Just for comparison if anyone is interested, with a 6+8pin 7950 Vapor-X running at 1200/1775

-Maximums/[Minimums]-
GPU Temp: 67c
GPU Voltage: 1.137v set, looks like ~1.030-1.055 under load

VRM1 Temp: 90c
VRM1 Power Out: 169.75w
VRM1 Voltage Out: 1.116v/1.031v

VRM2 Temp: 82c
VRM2 Power Out: 40.44w
VRM2 Voltage Out: 1.602v/1.602v
Fan Speed: 54% / 2455rpm

So it looks like VRM1 has a greater relation to the core while VRM2 is more related to the memory, although temperatures are very similar despite huge differences in wattage/etc. Increasing one VRM temp always brings the others temperature up...

Probaly because the memory only gets 1500 mv.
I will be pretty dissapointed, if this card can't get over 1200 mhz on core and 1600 on memory :S.

EDIT: Have benched a little now. max 1180 vcore, with 1244mv in gpu-z, 1400 mhz memory.
It doesn't OC as well, as my previously 7950 MSI Twin Frozr card :S. But is definitely is more quite.

I didn't know that Sapphire made a 2x8pin HD7950 950mhz edition. Could you please post a photo of the PCB or post a link to a review of it with photos of PCB?

I have Sapphire HD7950 950mhz Edition with 6+8 pin power connectors and built on a reference HD7970 PCB. It is a very good card for me. Over clock 1300/1800+ no problem for gaming or benchmarks.

This is my BIOS that Sapphire emailed me. Works very well for me and a few others have tried it and like it.

You are using water cooling though, right?

Man I wish I had a source of such cooling because the card I have seems to be limited only by temperatures frown.gif

Can't find it on google, and i don't feel comfortabel to remove the cooler atm. Will see if i can get some decent OC, if not. I will try refund it, and get another. Have gotten 2 cards with an asic around 61%, and both didn't clock very well :S
Both bios' is the 15.25.99.
Heard something about, flashing another bios to it, where the memory will get 1600 mv, instead of 1500 mv atm. Then there should be a slightly higher chance of some great OCing.
Anyone can confirm this?

Water cooled with heatkiller full cover block with Coolaboratory liquid pro TIM on gpu and fujipoly extreme thermal pad on VRMs and RAM.

The card works great with good water cooling.

Please post photos of your PCB. I have never seen your card.

Hello, I'm new here and i am wondering if any of you guys could help me. I recently recieved my 7950 vapor-x oc boost, 8+8pin. I was wondering if my gpuz VDDC Current readout is fine or not because it seemed very erratic and fluctuated unusually compared to other gpuz sensor images with a near solid bar in the thread. It would idle 0.3A and 59-79A under load with Heaven DX11, it would sometime spike up to 127.9A or skip very low as indicated in the image. Do i have a bad card, rma?confusedsmiley.png

Could fluctuate based on gpu load.

Hmm. Seems like the Sapphire 7950 vapor-x OC 11196-09-40g model, ain't compatible with any full cover blocks out there :S
