GPUZ says the memory voltage is 1.602, but that never changes in the log, so I wonder if it's really that high. Guess I could try Afterburner?

Yeah, the memory voltage is 1.6V by default, as i read that the older versions had stability issues caused by too low memory voltage. It used to be 1.5v or something like that. But memory overclocking isn't really needed that much with these cards anyway, so i just bumb it to 1400 and let it be. These memory chips don't seem to oc that good anyway, even if you could ramp the voltages up.

so heres a question. should we be setting core voltage higher than 1.3v to something like 1.32 or higher so that if we want 1.3v after vdroop to support a higher OC? or will the >1.30v at idle damage the card? (assuming i have my heat generation under control)

idle means 2d clocks, so 2d voltages, unless you're locking the voltage. If you have any droop, you'll never be at exactly what you set, so I wouldn't worry as long as you're not seeing artifacts and nothing is overheating.

I'd need about 1.25v real voltage to be able to run 1200 stable but the vdroop brings me down to about 1.23-1.24 max which makes it artifact in Far Cry 3 slightly.frown.gif

Are you sure its not the temps? When I run 1.055v "real"/1200 in FC3, chances of artifacts increase exponentially once the core gets to about 65c. If I go to 1250, the core needs to be <57c for no artifacts. More or less voltage has no effects, just that low voltage = lower temps, but at the same times, will potentially C2D if too low..

Just FYI on Crysis 3. 13 fps average on very high settings with msaa and aa maxed.. without msaa and aa on you get about 38-42 fps...

That's on a stock 7950.

Well then I'm sorry to say your build is poop cause mine runs flawlessly 60 frames even with aa you probley aren't using the beta driver. They released a fix for aa it was bugging with some effects

I don't use beta drivers =) I use the full release drivers, not a big deal for me wish AMD would full release drivers more often.

Thats crazy. I much prefer to run games maxed without any AA than have visual quality suffer for it. AF on the other hand, its hard for me to play without.. and its barely taxing. Very irritating that few games seem to have it in the graphics settings..
Yea well then you would of known your statement was inaccurate only reason frames dropped that low with aa was because of a bug with aa and shaders

So guys,

I exchanged the thermal pad under the main VRM heatsink on my 7950 Vapor-X and the VRM temps went down by up to 14C (!!!). With my daily O/C to 1100MHz i was getting up to 96C in Furmark and 81C gaming. With Fujipoly Extreme under the heatsink, it now only goes up to 82C in Furmark and max 72C in Farcry3.
