7950 Vapor X Voltage Locked? - Page 95

So right now in Sapphire Trixx (version 4.6.0), I had the VDDC at 1125...but sometimes it resets up to 1250 on its own. Any reason for this and how can I keep it at 1125?

My Sapphire Vapor X HD7950 does not over well at all and it has locked voltage of 1.25v under load. I have tried MSI afterburner newest beta, Latest official TRIXX and the moded TRIXX and my voltage will not change settings. Under load the voltage is pegged at 1.25v.

What BIOS do you have?

I use the latest official BIOS with constant voltage enabled (important) in Afterburner plus 2D/3D profiles. This allows vgpu adjustment.....the problem with Trixx is it doesn't drop voltage with 2D clocks.

My Sapphire 7950 Vapor X, 8+8 pin. Stable at 1150/1400 On Boost BIOS 1.3vddc/1.6mvddc
The core voltage is limited to 1.3v and the memory voltage is locked on 1.6v.
These are the highest clocks I can achieve, unless I force constant voltage in which case I can have it 1200/1400 stable. MSI AB seems to apply more stable overclocks than Trixx 4.6.

Temps are cool too. Full load: 59c GPU, 66c VRMs (doesn't exceed 70c.)

1.3vdc? Sounds really high, but nice temps. Have you tried with Furmark? What temps do you get?
And have you made sure you really get 1.3v? Monitor with GPU-Z or something?

How high can you go with this card?

The temps I posted are from 20 mins of Furmark burn-in and the voltage is a little odd there is definitely some v-drooping. Set at 1.3v I believe it really runs more 1.25v according to GPU-Z. During Furmark it shows (depending on the the GPU loads) 1.175-1.245 and during gameplay or heaven bench it shows 2.73. Now MSI AB shows something slightly different, 1.25v-1.3v during Furmark and 1.3v during gameplay. I am happy with the temps so I will leave it at this voltage because it is running smooth as spreadable butter.
I can't go higher than 1210core without artifacts and with forced constant voltage. The memory voltage is locked at 1.6v, I cannot push that past 1415 or black screen.

UPDATE VOLTAGES: Set at 1.3v. Actual : 1.18v-.09v

Ya, i wont say "i told you soo" but with 1.3 and Furmark running, those 59°c sounded way too good.

In what program do you change voltage? And in what program do you verify that actual voltage?

Actually I realized my video card is voltage locked and Boost BIOS changes the voltage depending on the clock up to 1.232. However, I can still force constant voltage with TRIXX to 1.3v and that is why I was confused in my readings. At 1150 core, the voltage stays around 1.19 and occasionally jumps to 1.23 depending on load. If I force the voltage I can go beyond 1200 core with temperatures at MAX of 63c. Overall this card is extremely cool and the placement of the Vapor X cooling system is perfect on my model compared to others. I tried to overclock in BIOS1, but I cannot get anything stable past 1100.

I am happy with my overclock without forcing voltages though. =)

Voltages will only change in TRIXX 4.6 and with forced constant voltages. (memory is locked at 1.6v). I use GPU-Z generally, however I compared with other monitoring tools MSI, HWinfo, ect. All of them are off here and there.

It is the Boost BIOS, which changes the voltages up to 1250 unless you force constant.
