I know that when I water cooled my Sapphire 950mhz Edition HD7950 my memory picked up around 200mhz of stable over clocking speed so cooling off the memory with the water block helped alot.

Yeah, unless the core is really cool running [like maybe a 77XX card] or otherwise the memory is heavily overvolted, I think split would perform better.

GL with your next Vapor-X.

I don't understand why you would order another 7950 Vapor X. You obviously want more performance and the logical choice would be to buy a 7970. Expecting to overclock beyond what you have is really silly and ASIC scores don't mean a thing in terms of measuring how well it will perform.

HD7970 isn't worth the %25 more for just 5% more performance to me.

I expect at least a stable 1300mhz on the core. To me that is acceptable. My SApphire 950mhz Edition HD7950 runs 1300\1700 with only 1.22v on the core and the reason it operates so efficiently is because it has a high ASIC score of 89% and it doesn't require as much voltage to operate stable as a card like the Vapor X HD7950 with the 57% ASIC score.

There is big noticeable difference between these two cards and its easy for me to see that the high quality ASIC score made a huge difference in performance.

I hope my next Vapor X HD7950 has at least an ASIC score of %70 and it is over clock friendly.

I talked directly with Sapphire about other cards for possible replacement and Sapphire reps told me that if I was after extreme performance the Vapor X HD7950 was the best built HD7950.

So that is what I'm getting... again. If it doesn't work out then I will return it.

There's a very good chance your new Vapor-X will also have an ASIC score around ~60% as the ASIC score is derived from voltage.
This may have mattered before as cards came with various voltages depending on chip quality binning, but nowadays they all come with a constant 1.25V, no matter what the true "ASIC quality" is.

You simply cannot reasonably relate your 950MHz edition overclocking experiences to these new cards.

This being said, you might get a chip which simply overclocks better at that predefined voltage and for this I keep my fingers crossed.

From what I've seen on a lot of different forums, sites, reviews, ect... The average OC is from 1100-1200 on air, chances are that 1300/1700 is going to be considered a very good card. Even on water that is still is a good OC from what I've seen.

The reason the voltages our higher with these "new cards" is because they require more voltage to operate at operational speed. This is also why many of these new cards have terrible ASIC scores.

Water is the goal for this card but I don't want a pig from the start. 57% with locked voltage of 1.25v is not what I'm looking for. Sapphire told me that for over clocking and performance the best card to get is the VApor X HD7950 but based on my experience so far the Sapphire 950mhz Edition is the best HD7950.

The Vapor-X's got a nice cooler for the GPU, but I don't think it's that great when it comes to VRAM cooling...

I don't think this is the case.
Good chip or bad chip now gets the same voltage.
You will see some differences (+-5%) because of varying vdroop but that's it.
