Again ASIC score aside I believe the VApor X is being held back by BIOS.

Maybe an obvious question from my side, but have you tried switching to the other bios?
One is voltage locked, the other shouldn't be.

I did try both of them and didn't have success with the first card that I sent back. The voltage was locked up at default votlage of 1.25v.

So far I haven't done alot of over clocking on the new VApor X HD7950. I booted up in the boost bios that has the little BIOS switch button illumintated. Voltage appears to be locked at default voltage of 1.25v under load and changing voltage with TRIXX does nothing.

What software over clocking utility are you using?

I'm thinking about keeping the new card since with the locked voltage it over clocks stable to 1201/1350 which isn't too bad for air cooling. I'm thinking with some water cooling and working BIOS/TRIXX I can probably get it to 1300mhz on the core which is my goal.

The memory may over clock a little better as well after I water cool the memory.

I really like how this video card feels when gaming. I think the stronger VRM design may help deliver better stability for gaming. Also I think the Elpida memory may have tighter timings than the HYNIX brand. Despite the card being clocked slower it feels very responsive when gaming.

My 950mhz Edition easily beats it in benchmarks and over clocking but the VaporX feels really good for gaming. So probably going to keep it. I wonder if the custom PCB of the Vapor X helps with the latency issues that many HD79XX cards have been negatively criticized for.

I really hope Sapphire releases a BIOS that will help it go faster.

The boost bios (illuminated LED) is locked on my Vapor-X.
The other bios is unlocked and I only had success with Trixx 4.6.0.

On my old Vapor X HD7950 I didn't have any luck with either BIOS.

I will try the non illiminated BIOS position on the new Vapor X HD7950 with Trixx 4.6.0.

Did you try any of the modded TRIXX?

TRIXX 4.4.B Moded allows voltage adjustment up to 3.8v for the VAPOR X but since the voltage didn't change on my first Vapor X it didn't matter. Hopefully I can get some voltage adjustment going on with the new Vapor X.

Yes, 4.4.0b mod works too, both VDDC + MVDDC adjustments.
I'm not willing to go as far as 1.381V though, as my card maxes out already at 1.24V (1250MHz). Would probably do better under water.

1250 is best oc i have seen for this card on air. I think your high asic score helps.

I have reached 1250 aswell, but i would lie if i say it is fully stable, but it can do a few rounds in 3DMark. And i do not have high ASIC, again 59.1%.

There are several users in this thread who have reached 1250MHz with their Vapor-X and then probably hit temperature walls.
My max oc is stable only with fan @ 100%.

My vapor-x has asic of 89%, the limiting factor of my ocs has been vrm temps

My 950mhz does seem golden and I have gone as fast as 1370mhz on the core on it. I think 1300mhz is good over clock for any HD7950 and I would like to see the Vapor X HD7950 do it.

I'm a firm believer that high ASIC score means quality GPU based on my experience but I think the VApor X HD7950 has problem with the BIOS that is preventing it from over clocking. More than just the ASIC score.

Today I got my 2nd HD7950 VApor X HD7950 and its ASIC score is a lousy 58%. So it looks like if this card doesn't perform I'm going to return it and get my money back and I am done with the Vapor X.

The Elpida memory on these cards doesn't over clock very well compared to card with Hynix memory but I think the memory timings on the Elpida may be alot tighter because I really enjoy how well the Elpida memory feels when gaming.
How do you know you have elpida? And how does it feel nicer? I think my vapor-x has Hynix
