[Tom's] Crucial Study Finds that Computers Cause Stress

Thread Starter
Quote:
A whopping 94 percent of survey respondents said that they experienced computer performance problems causing stress. 52 percent of respondents said they are unhappy with the performance of their PC.
Quote:
The level of stress was greater than that experienced when choosing what to wear (47 percent), traffic jams (27 percent), going through airport security (21 percent), dealing with finances (19 percent), filing taxes (18 percent), managing their overall health (14 percent), and arguing with their spouse (13 percent). Crucial's debate ties into a discussion in the industry how much performance the average user really needs. However, most of the time, this debate focuses on the GPU and not on the memory.

Source?
This is hilarious... I get pretty stressed and frustrated when using slow machines.

You have to add the source.

It could probably be generalized by saying: 'People get stressed when something breaks and they don't know how to fix it', instead of saying it's related to computers or computer paraphernalia.

They generalized everything else to make it seem specific. Otherwise this is just stupid.

Most of the time, it's because they caused it themselves. I get family, friends, and co-workers telling me something is wrong with their PC. Usually it's Limewire, or random You've won ads/email they click.

I guess I'm just not really a stressed person, none of those things on the list actually cause me stress, and my ex and I never really got into serious arguments.

I suppose when using a computer that barely crawls through the tasks you want it to do can be frustrating to people, especially at work the register computer I use because it has a mechanical keyboard is quite slow. Worst part about that is the customer gets angry waiting.

In other news ignorant people feel fear, anxiety, and stress when something they don't understand in the smallest measure doesn't do what they think it should do. All this proves that if you don't bother to understand things in a small measure then things are going to stress you out because it will be almost like magic to you. I see this so much with people and technology its disgusting. MS and Apple have created a world in which people think they can get away with out understanding the most basic of things and you can use computer. How is this news?

Problem lies between computer and chair.

I think that was the sentence.

I much prefer problem exists between keyboard and chair, or PEBKAC. Much easier to pronounce biggrin.gif

Because they buy Dell's, and HP's.... OEM's have a way of ruining the user experience by their slow installs, trials, and other vendorware.

I just installed a new Dell at an office that needed a new pc. It ran okay... Then re installed Windows on an older machine that had a hard drive die... The other machine was much more responsive.

First thing I do with OEMs is wipe them with a hardware agnostic Windows image. Then install necessary drivers. Much better!
