VG278HE 144Hz TFT or Achieva Shimian 60Hz IPS?

I'm a gamer at heart and I love me some FPS. I also love awesome looking displays. I currently game on an LG 42LK450 (S-IPS panel) which is awesome for gaming because of the low input lag. I'm thinking of using it as my main bedroom TV so I can sit back and in bed and play non-FPS games. So my question is, will I be better off paying around $299 for a "lottery based" Achieva Shimian or a VG278HE 144Hz TFT for around $430 after I use up my Amazon credit. I'm sure I would LOVE the picture on the Shimian but the warranty blows and if something goes wrong, I'm pretty much screwed to an extent. The VG278HE offers better input lag and a super high refresh rate which is best for gaming but the picture isn't as good obviously. Thoughts anyone?

Its not just because its IPS. Its the Resolution which is fantastic for the Korean Monitor. I would go with Achieva Shimian 60Hz IPS.

True but I'm just not sure about buying from a guy across the ocean. Those monitors are cheap for a reason. I know a lot of folks ended up with a good one but there's also a lot of folks that have had issues with them. The VG278HE is more reliable in my opinion and has less input lag and runs at double the refresh rate. Should I sacrifice all that for looks alone?

You are also paying more. Some sellers check the monitor before shipping. Its up too you really.

Have you tried a korean 1440p as well as a 120Hz+ TFT by any chance? I'm leaning towards the 1440p since it's so cheap... $284....

I have the 1440p Shimian and I gotta say it's nice but I haven't tried a 120 hz yet. But I think there is a Yamasaki Catleap Q270 that can but not for sure to 120hz. The monitor is like $500+.

On eBay, check out BBC or green-sum, since they have a good reputation from people.

Yeas i have tried 120Hz and its really smooth feel when you play fps but you need a lot i mean a lot of GPU power to get 120fps @ 1080p. My frind bough a Korean monitor and its fantastic other then not as good build quality as my U2711. He never wanted a 1440p monitor but after getting it he loves it.

I am also kind of curious to know the difference between the VG278HE and other IPS offerings....I know the ASUS has a very high refresh rate....but how is the picture quality and colors? If it can handle its own, then I might just go Asus

The Asus monitor is just a TN panel so you can't expect it to compete with monitors like the shimian in picture quality. Especially when you realize that the Asus is stretching a small resolution on 27 inches of screen, the pixels will be larger which isn't a good thing.

You need roughly the same horsepower to move 1440p @ 60hz as 1080p @ 120hz. 1440p is right around double the pixels. However, if you don't have the power to move either to its full potential, you'll be better served by a 120hz+ monitor because if you pull 100fps, it'll feel great compared to 50 tongue.gif
