One question what is the retina display?
I think it totally depends on what you want to do, but already having a desktop, I'd say the MBP.

Retina, meh. I'd wait for 2nd gen before I'd consider one. Plus you're paying a hefty premium for something that will be the norm next year.
Its just a high resolution high ppi display. Nothing special really. Quite over-rated IMO.

I love my MBP with Retina display. I went for the 16GB memory upgrade (Yes, it's actually used tongue.gif) and combined with the SSD, it's incredibly fast. The screen is as crisp as print when it comes to text, and is nice when coding for hours on end. There have been quality control issues, but they will take care of it if you run into them.

It looks like your looking at the MBP, but if you did want an iMac, wait for the refresh. They are overdue for one and I would expect one by Spring.
