Quiet Computer Case - Gaming

Thread Starter
I am trying to find a quiet computer case, with great cooling for gaming, that doesn't cost over $120 or so.

I understand that my GPU and CPU will be making noise, and that is not going to go away...however I'm looking for a case that dampens that sound and has ultra-quiet fans.

I was wondering what you guys had to say about this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129179

The reviews talk trash about shipping and factory mess ups...then others say it's great and quiet. Any comments?

I don't have a nice CPU Cooler for my AM3 Phenom x4, so I am open to suggestion for a decent priced one that is not water cooled.

Thanks

You could always use passive coolers on the CPU and GPUs, sacrificing some cooling for dead silence.

Fractal design cases are good at insulating noises, too.

yeah id probably stick with something like the r3/r4. the ft02 are still the best imo, if you have a fan controller wink.gif

I've had my R3 for what must be getting close to 12 months and i've been very happy with its quietness so far. I was previously running 2 fans up front, 2 on CPU cooler (Noctua NH-U12P), 1 at back and 1 up top. All fans were Noctua NF-P12's which are nice an quiet and the other 2 were the Fractals that came with the case.

I had the fans running at medium to low setting most of the time 600-900 rpm which cooled just fine for me even with a slight overclock.

I just switched to water cooling with similar amount of fans and its still dead quiet except under stress testing. Definitely quiet enough during games.

One thing i would recommend doing is getting some quite low-rpm fans with high airflow so you can at least have 2 at the front and 2 up top or at the back plus CPU cooler. That way you can run them all at minimum rpm and get decent cooling most of the time.

as said above i'd worry about silent fans more so than a case with slightly thicker doors/pannels

never got the appeal about noctuas. they are absurdly expensive and underperform compared to stuff like GTs and san aces. unlike most, i dont mind the colour scheme

hell, even the nexus real silent performs better lol, and its like 8 dorrah http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1020-page7.html

Didn't mean to promote the noctua's as a choice for this build. I got mine around 5 years ago cause that was the best thing available to me at the time. Theres much better options around.

Also how can you like the colour scheme? Sure it looks alright on its own but atrocious as soon as you put it in almost any build tongue.gif

Okay so I was wondering about http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352024
I see it doesn't come with any fans...but I have purchased a Noctua and Coolermaster fans previously that had claimed low DB sound. What fans should I look into that are ultra quiet without using a fan controller?

In addition I don't think I'd want passive CPU cooler since this is an AMD system...so any favorite value CPU Coolers that are not too noisy?

Yeah the R4 should be a decent quite case. Basically a fatter version of the R3 tongue.gif

I haven't bought a new air cooler in years but i believe the Cooler Master 212 Evo has good bang for buck at the moment and just put some decent quiet fans on it.

If you're getting the R4 you might want to also invest in 140mm fans over 120's as you can get good air flow at lower rpm, hence quieter.

Btw the R4 also comes with to quiet 140mm fans already, so if you got 2 more plus use your existing fans on the CPU cooler you're set.

I just bought a fractal design r4 using a noctua cooler, added a Corsair quiet 140mm in front took noctua fans off cooler put on of r4 as exhaust and put my old gentle typhoons on cooler.
