Simple app to access a database

Thread Starter
What would the the best way for me to go about creating a program with a basic ui that contains a few check boxes and a text entry box? All this information needs to be entered into a database. I would probably be more comfortable doing this with HTML and MySql but this needs to be a stand alone program so as far as that is concerned I'm lost. My knowledge of coding/programing is limited to dickering around with HTML and PHP and a basic lesson during comtech in Qbasic. I already have what I need thought out in plain words, I just need to know what would be best suited to my needs. I was leaning towards visual basic or possibly .net. I was volunteered (voluntold?) for this by my Mom, Mothers don't we all just love them rolleyes.gif

C# with SQL Compact and LINQ.
Checkout my topic for some info on LINQ. It is very easy to use and is a lot like using SQL directly.

If you are going for .NET, you could be able to deliver the solution. You use Visual Studio C# Express (free) or Visual Web Developer (free). if you want to build a win forms or even a simple console program you could choose the first one. But if you want to do ASP.NET web the last one may fit better. There are a range of languages to use those IDEs, being C# and VisualBasic.NET the most common. If you have basic knowledge of object oriented programming, with a couple of quick tutorials you could start to work in this simple app that have been requested to you...

PD: I've found a useful link: http://www.asp.net/web-forms There you have download links for tools, "Getting Started" guides, and a lot of useful stuff...thumb.gif

You could even do it in Java.

It's a fairly simple task.
