The sad part is actually believe what you said.

In a non-cpu intensive game a 8150 will almost tie a 2500k. But the trouble with that is an i3 or Pentium would tie both of them too.

If a benchmark show all CPUs with the same result, would that prove that they are all equivalent processors? No. It just shows that its an inadequate benchmark to compare CPUs. The only benchmarks that are relevant are ones that show the difference between two cpus. In WOW it matters what cpu you have, it doesn't matter in Crysis 2.

*edit* the idea was that WoW benchmarks are not very relevant to this topic. It was a cherry picked benchmark. People who buy these types of CPUs play Battlefield 3, Bad Company 2, Crysis, Crysis 2, Metro 2033, etc. - not WoW.

The irony is that none of those games need an 8 core, and are GPU intensive games not CPU. Metro seems to be the most CPU intensive and the most able to use multiple cores, but the i5-2400 still beats the 8120.

Unless you have a 120hz monitor. But the actual numbers aren't that important. It shows how much stronger the i5 is than the 8150, about 30%. In a more demanding title that would mean the difference between 60fps and 42fps. And, not coincidentally, that is the result of the Civ 5 bench.

Interesting that an i3 performs the same. So why go with bulldozer when you can get an i3 cheaper :-p

Because you can't overclock the i3 for better performance when it's needed.

Edit: Also, since when is an i3 cheaper than a BD? Looks like it's the same price as the FX-4170.

cheaper than an 8150, not the 4170. In the case of the 4170 which wasn't represented in any benchmark I've seen posted in this thread its the same price. My guess is (Not posting this as a FACT mind you) that it destroys a 4170.

And yes its stupid you can't OC an i3... But everyone who likes FX should be glad because an OC'd i3 would just be ridiculously better.

You do realise that the FX-41*0s are the i3 competitors and are priced the same?

It doesn't really matter if the benchmark shows it or not though, I don't play WoW so I'm not going to look at benchmarks for it and let that determine what I want in a CPU; a 2500k is faster than an FX-8150 in single threaded applications for sure, it only depends if it makes a difference in the stuff you do.

In stuff that uses under 2 cores, an FX-4170 will be exactly the same as a FX-8150 at the same clock speed, I'd also guess that it wouldn't be too far with 4 threads if they're testing without the BD patches.

If it comes close to a 2500K in gaming performance then maybe otherwise NO. All current AMD processors are crap let's hope this changes that thumb.gif

I'm neither for or against OBR. I do think he's a troll sometimes and stuff, so trust me, I'm not a fan of his or anything. I just think it's funny how much hate he gets, and how much people praised JF-AMD back then. In the end OBR's info was far more reliable than JF-AMD's, of course, that's not saying much. wink.gif

I checked JF-AMD's Linkedin page, and he works at NextIO now, and has AMD as a previous employer as of August 2012.

Except that the 8150 competes with the 2500k. Not only in performance, but it also destroys it in price/performance.

No not really, sorry doh.gif

If you can get it for ~$100 then I say go for it but the performance margin is too great for me or any serious gamer, enthusiast to consider. Not knocking AMD but their current CPU lineup is crap. If money were not an object, I'm sure the majority of Bulldozer users would have gone Intel. Piledriver gaming performance remains to be seen
