Best 60hz, matte black, LED monitor?

Thread Starter
23" to keep the pixel pitch down. Don't need 3D. Would desire an HDMI input, sturdy stand with tilt, and HDCP compatibility. <$300. IPS would be nice. LED backlighting.
There are sooo many choices! How to select the right one?

"cookies" will be given for help! wink.gif
THANKS

OK, for the ASUS VS Series, looking at these:

ASUS VS248H-P Black 24" 2ms non-IPS
ASUS VS238H-P Black 23" 2ms non-IPS
ASUS VS239H-P Black 23" 5ms IPS

Should I go sacrifice some refresh time for an IPS display? Are they better? It just allows for a wider viewing angle, right? It would be nice to have a wider vertical viewing angle I suppose.. But screen looks glossy and people are saying that the stand is flimsy.

Any other brands worth looking at?

Viewing angles AND color accuracy. You might lose some contract in your blacks though.

I'd go with the IPS, but then I also dabble in photography and digital art. Purely for gaming? That's subjective.

Depends on your budget. I find that the LG E2341 is a very good 23" budget monitor. It's got a good contrast ratio and is nice and bright with a good response time. It uses LED tech for backlighting. It's a great monitor although it uses old an school TN panel, and it is a "no frills" screen with little extras. You get waht you pay for. A decent screen.

I'd suggest the Korean monitors namely the Yamakasi Catleap Q270/CrossOver 27Q, splendid displays for the price. The only problem is you'll have to look into eBay, but some of the sellers guarantee pixel perfect condition before shipping. There are also some models which hosts a better PCB and allows overclocking the refresh rate out of the standard 60Hz. They are IPS panels, 27" and 2560x1440 ready. biggrin.gif

I've thought long and hard about the Catleap and other korean IPS panels mentioned above and came to the conclusion that they simply are not a good buy unless you meet one of two conditions:

1- You get an overclockable board, intend to overclock it, have the GPU power to power it, and don't care if it dies soon because it's your only option for 1440p 100+hz IPS gaming.

or

2- You're looking for a "too good to be true" price on what would be an otherwise very expensive piece of hardware, and don't mind playing a very expensive lottery to attempt to cheat standard pricing. (even then, you're still going to have to sacrifice certain luxuries like OSD and warranty)

That said, if you ARE in one of those two camps, they're awesome, go buy one now.

Well said.
I've been constantly back and forth about buying one ever since I had one arrive DOA from green sum. It took 18 days from purchase to get a refund back from them.. and I'm still waiting for it to clear through the financial institutions. I just don't know if I want to gamble it, buy the Dell u2711, or a 24"
