Can anyone modify the Sabertooth 990FX 2.0 BIOS to allow core unlocking? - Page 3

Yes I have. Core Unlocked does exactly what you would want, it allows you to unlock factory locked cores on dual or triple core chips etc.
Core Activation simply allows you to toggle on and off factory unlocked cores. Like on the new eight core Piledrivers if you lock out four or six cores you can push the active cores to much higher frequencies. You cannot however unlock like you can on the R1. I have had both boards. This is fact. And a shame.

Sucks. I planned on buying http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?SID=bzg62iyXEeKLkwLjBHCCfwD4a5_OPcG3_0_0_0&AID=10440897&PID=1225267&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=N82E16813131872

You and I seem to be the only people on the internet who have this problem lol. Ended up getting http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131754 on amazon since it still has the core unlocker. Hopefully the latest bios doesn't remove it, but I think it's only for specific boards.

I remember gigabyte pulled the same stuff and removed their core unlocker, but added back at a later date.

Any luck on finding someone to mod the bios to include this feature? I ordered the Sabertooth 990FX locally as it was the only AM3/AM3+ motherboard in stock in my country that met my needs (including core unlocking) and when I picked it up I was disappointed to see it was an R2.0 - thus no core unlocking feature. It looks like I'm stuck with this motherboard now. I have a Phenom II X3 720 BE and I would really like to have the extra core that I used to have on my old (dead) board, as I don't have the luxury of getting a new CPU now.

I know how you feel Charllie. Unfortunately nobody seems to be able to enable the feature in the BIOS. I have tried requesting it on various MOBO forums with no luck. Sorry mate.

Yeah it's bad... I've been trying to communicate with ASUS support for a while now but I'd have better luck talking to a brick wall. The motherboard is amazing otherwise so I think I'll keep it and wait until I can get a new CPU. Thanks anyway laurie!

Not at all mate. It's exactly what I'm doing. Will have to save up for an 8350.

I encounter the same issue with a 970 board, very disappointed. Google search leads me to this thread. And I just registered an account to show my support!
