Can anyone modify the Sabertooth 990FX 2.0 BIOS to allow core unlocking? - Page 5

I have recently "joined" the club "ASUS R2.0 and phenom 2".
I have m5a99xevo r2.0 and phenom 2 x3 720
I am trying to mod the bios with "zero" knowledge.
But I have found on some other sites, that the bios modules have to be extracted and decompressed with MMTool 4.5.
The strings' rom from the bios is "Setup" position 03 98. And here my knwledges are finished.
I read, that there should be another rom, who has to offset to that module and position...

I was able to see the strings in AMIBCP, but the option in the R2 BIOS doesn't exist. If you have the patience to extract every module and open them up in a hexeditor to find the string maybe we can import that module. Or at least look for the equivalent on the R2 Bios and compare the two.

Hi Trinergy,

I used MMtool 4.50 to extract some of the modules. I found that in module "Setup" there are those same strings related to core unlocking. They look like this:

As far as I understood, somewhere in that file, probably, must be a line of code that points to that position, and that line is disabled.
Still gathering the knowledge of "how to".

Have you compared it to the R1 setup? Or I guess you can swap it and see what happens. But someone would have to risk being a guinea pig to update their firmware. Probably could use usb bios backup to recover. Unfortunately, I am already using an 8350 so I won't risk it. I am curious to see if it could be done though.

Here is a general guide for AMI UEFI BIOS including precautions on updating the modded BIOS. Using the replace feature from an R1 Module might be the only way to even try. However, who knows what you lose if you boot up ok and it actually works. It appears that you can use the USB BIOS back feature to recover. Otherwise you can pick up a BIOS on ebay for like $15.

Here is the modified 2005 rom with the SETUP module swapped from M5A99X R1 (1708). The module replacement procedure I used is the same as replacing PCI Option ROM modules. So if you are willing to risk bricking your MB. It doesn't seem like you have the USB BIOS Flashback option on that motherboard. I guess the only other way to get back is to swap BIOS chips, if it won't boot.
