Phase Change, Yay or Nay?

So guys,

I have been lurking around this area for a while now, and I am really tempted to jump in.
I am thinking if I do go in, I will get a testbench for my rig and have the CPU on a phase and the rest of the system on water as it is now.

I know that it really wont make a big difference other than the slight increase in overclocking headroom, (besides the awesomeness from the Phase changer next to the rig biggrin.gif) But I am one of them, nothing is overkill kinda guys. And having saved up a pretty penny I thought why the hell not tongue.gif

Living in europe, the only Phase Change I have found is the Little Devil one either that or the one with the smaller suction line depending on the size I am going for.
I was wondering if there might be other manufactures of Phase Changers in europe. I have heard that the LD phase changers should be pretty good so I am just wondering if there might be others that might be better.

I am probably going to contact Dwood to see if I can get one of his test benches, as I think they have a nice design and the color matches the LD phase Changer I was looking at.


I would appreciate any input comments or what ever, as I am still deciding wether or not to go this way wink.gif

Honestly I think your first phase change rig should be built your self. It won't look nice and it will be so loud that will have to keep it in your garage, but that is fun you are looking for I think. It was for me anyway. Just buying one and bolting it on isn't any fun and regardless of how you get it...you won't be running 24/7 or at least highly unlikely. So a shed or garage setup should be OK anyway.

While I can see the fun in doing it my self. I don't have the time or the room to make one my self. And since I'm moving out soon I won't have a shed or garage to put it in.

It is typically rather loud...though I supposed if you used head phones for speakers it would be OK. Plus the extra electric bill. Plus always having water dripping off of something doesn't sound fun to me...especially beside my desk.

You could also ask why don't people buy a dry ice maker and cool their CPU with pots of that.

Electric bill is nothing compared to a TEC, and water should not be an issue if everything is well insulated. Noise may or may not be an issue, depending on the enclosure and location.

I don't think it's at all comparable to cooling methods where expendables are consumed. Really, it by far the most viable 24/7 subambient cooling method.
