[Build Log] "Not Quite White" - Watercooled Prodigy - 3570k - GTX 670 - Page 3

I royally screwed up sleeving one of the spliced wires on the 24-pin and ruined it... looks like I'm gonna need to make my own wires, which means I need to get wires, pins, a crimper... mad.gif

I'll do as much as I can on the 24-pin and then do the CPU cable.

Update: I finally received Lutro0's sleeving tools (he shipped an extra to make up for a shipping problem, he's awesome)! Even though I decided to do mostly heatshrinkless I'm sure they'll come in handy.

I also got the 8-pin done! Not the best, but I'm satisfied. I wish the wiring wasn't so odd. Maybe it wasn't necessary, but I made sure every pin went back exactly where it started.

I highly recommend it. It seems like it'd be far easier than using heatshrink and it produces much cleaner results for people who don't know what they're doing (like me biggrin.gif). If you have any extra wires for some reason (from an old power supply or something) and it's your first time sleeving, definitely practice on something other than the intended power supply cables. I found it's really easy to over-melt the heatshrink, and more than a few times I ended up with melted-then-solidified heatshrink all over the pins.

I sold my computer! I'm gonna order the core components soon (minus the graphics card, unfortunately).

In case you're looking for a well-priced 670, see my deals thread: link.

Though if you were expecting to finish this build in the next few months as you planned, it might be better to wait it out til Black Friday or holiday deals.

I'd spring for it, but I will most likely end up waiting for Black Friday for the graphics card. I'm buying the core components now so I have a computer to use for non-gaming stuff, but I'd hate to spend money on a graphics card now and see a huge price drop on Black Friday. I'd also like to get my graphics card from the OCN Marketplace if possible to help out other users.

Thanks for the link, though, +rep
