No case

Thread Starter
I've got extra parts lying all around..and I have all the parts I need to build an extra rig......Except a case. Would it be safe to put all this parts together, and run it, just to test what works, and what doesn't, without a case? Just lying the parts down on a small table I have?

have it on an ANTI STATIC bag, the ones u get with your Motherbaord etc and you should be fine. Or even on the standoff screws jsut so its elevated a little off the table.

I do every new board I get just the way you said. Only I use those little plastic standoff's on the mobo, and place it on a piece of plywood. I use a known good PSU, and graphics card. Those parts will let you boot into the bios.

I used to do that all of the time. Just make sure you put something non conductive underneath the mobo (antistatic foam is great, like the reader above stated) and you should be good. My spare desk (cheap particleboard with some kind of weird black finish) actually conducts, I tested the tabletop with a multimeter and it read a closed circuit. Very wierd!!
