Where did you read 10mil because someone posted earlier they had 20mil of private investors yet I can't find anything that said he had either. Realistically though to make the game he wants he would need like 50mil GTA 5 cost 60mil to make sooo not sure how the game will turn out all on faith.............

You forget, GTA IV was cross platform (console licensing fees), had tons of marketing, probably well-paid voice actors and writers, and a HUUUUGE dev team. Not to mention they were licensing out some premium third party middleware like Euphoria. No doubt it was a big money sink. I don't see why a smaller, tighter (more efficient) team can't make a game like this on a smaller budget.

Chris Roberts said in an interview that the game will cost around 15 million to develop, and that they needed 5 million from crowd funding and private investors were covering the rest. They don't need nearly as much as the large AAA titles because pc is the only platform they are developing for and they don't need to spend money on licensing or famous voice acting. As far as GTA goes, that's a really bad comparison since both GTA IV and V are in the top ten of most expensive games ever developed. In fact, GTA IV was the most expensive at a little over 100 million.

If you think about it from a numbers standpoint, 15 million makes sense. You can hire around 75-100 people for a two year development cycle with that, which is what Roberts has said they need.

Thanks for the link! Looks cool.

For future reference, you can enclose the video URL in between {VIDEO}{/VIDEO} except with brackets instead of curly braces (just did this so that you could see).

Here's the embedded version.

Im simply astonished by the absurd amount of money that this project has attained in the last few days.

As 6steven9 said, 4 million, at first, seemed like a fantasy, and that 5.5 million for the "Bengal Carrier" was the most far-fetched goal ever. rolleyes.gif
And now, 5 hours left, and 5.6 million dollars and counting. My faith in the gaming community has been restored in ways that can't be described with mere words!

Regardless, I guess this might be a good time to start thinking that Star Citizen is years away from release, and lowering expectations to a more realistic level might be wise, all things considered. Those 30 months for full release can't fly-by fast enough..
