And there is trouble. This game is promising so much. They are basically going to have be developing multiple games and then combine them into one. Every game that I can think of that promised a lot failed horribly at delivering those promises...every...single...one. Some failed worse than others, but no game that promises so much that you get all hyped for it has ever delivered on all of those promises.

I got my self the $40 package in the hopes that Star Citizen will be the first to not let me down, but I cannot help but feel like it was a waste. I really hate to be a downer, but at the same time I think people need to calm down before you end up dumping more money than you should into pledges and the game comes out...and it sucks...horribly.

I will very happily be wrong, though.

There's no usual reason that they'll miss their promises though. Normally missed promises are a publisher stepping in and saying "time's up". If they need it, they can come out and say that they're delaying the official launch. Chances are that this will be one of the games where most players won't even notice the change from beta to live beyond the (likely) character wipe.

Well said! These are dedicated fans that were willing to contribute a year before alpha and probably 3 years from launch! I am sure they would be willing to contribute again if need be!

I highly doubt anyone would mind a little extra wait

Come to think of it...this might be the first game I've heard of with a substantial budget...by no means large, but probably a decent amount better than the average inde developed game...WITHOUT having a publisher. So in this case I believe the developers will actually get the say when to press the "Release" button. If this goes good...it might not bode too well for the game publishers of the world (which won't make me lose any sleep...this was actually another reason I pledged...I really feel like I should do more, but I just can't convince my self).

Though I don't know the role that the other funding source will have (they got a $16 million loan I believe on the circumstance if they raised $2million in pledges). The funding source could end up acting like a publisher and demand the game get released early or start demanding repayment...which would require the game to be released early most likely.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out...but we will have almost a two year waiting game to see the outcome of all this.

Haha they could always follow the current trend and release the game as is, then just release the rest of it in stages as DLC and charge for it tongue.gif

Judging from the way CR has been going about this so far, i doubt he would even consider such a repulsive act......

haha, i seriously doubt he will.

anyways i think i messed up big time...i cant find any trace of my original pledge. i could have sworn black and blue i pledged $125 for the lancer package, i swear i remember doing it... yet cant find proof. which means if it didnt go through or whatever, have to purchase the package i want, but i miss out on the insurance frown.gif

I definitely agree that people should lower their expectations. Right now it seems like people expect this game to re-define the space sim and blow their minds, when in reality, we're probably going to get something closer to Freelancer 2 with a decent campaign, built in CryEngine 3 (oh yeah!).
I paid $120 and will be perfectly content with that, anything on top is just icing on the cake.
