Well there is some concept art in there. You have the freelancer a the top and the hornet at the bottom. There's also an alien fighter and a carrier. We're likely not to see more than that for a while because Roberts mentioned in a post that they have yet to have artists make 3d models for all the ships.

I thought X3: Albion Prelude would get me out of my comfy chair to buy a proper joystick. Then I thought X3: Rebirth would get me to do it but that's far too hush-hush to even be remotely interesting now. However, I think I've found a winner - this. Let's hope it revives the now barely alive genrè.

Stretch goals are up! Having reached the initial goal of 2 million, this game is going to happen. Now how much content we get upon initial release is up to us.

All money from both the kickstarter and the main site will be pooled together to determine the overall amount. Additionally, there is a kickstarter unique stretch goal of 750k, which will get everyone who pledged (including those who did not pledge on kickstarter) a R2D2 like repair droid for their ship.

Here is the link to the overall stretch goals:

http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/comprehensive-stretch-goals/

Edit: The key number to get to seems to be 3 million, as that will get us the persistent online universe. The devs have stated that they envision adding content, including more star systems, every couple of weeks once the universe goes live so the important thing is to get it up and running.

UPDATED 10/27/2012

After yesterday’s news that the Kickstarter campaign had hit its target of $500,000, the Twitter account for Roberts Space Industries has just confirmed that in the space of 24 hours the crowd funding effort for Star Citizen has raised a further $400,000 to the cause. This means that Chris Roberts’ next project has reached its intended target of $2,000,000 with weeks to spare, and the folks at Cloud Imperium are now looking at stretch goals for the ambitious Space Sim game.

In a press release that was issued last night (when they were short of the $2 million mark by $20,000) Chris Roberts said that the support from the community had been “overwhelming” but was “having a blast” with his return to development, hoping to “raise the bar” for PC games back to the top tier.

quoting myself from another forum...

wow he reached his $2M goal quite fast

I'm close to donate the $30 but still a bit skeptical. I'm excited that a dev finally is brave enough to make a MMO + sim into one game (and no subscription to boot). Hell, it's to prove PC gaming is very much alive and overshadows console game despite what the industry thinks. However, I think it's over ambitious....either the studio that picks this up is going to dilute the crap out of it and take out tons of features...or it's going to be a feature creep that'll come out in 2018 and still be a disappointment from the long ass wait.

In any case I hope EA and Activision stays clear of this game even though they have the money and tech to develop this (noting it's already running CryEngine 3). Would be sweet if BI picks it up ...the guys that make ArmA

No 3rd party developer or publisher will be "picking it up." Chris Roberts formed a new game studio called Cloud Imperium Games Corporation in 2011, which produced the tech demo that we saw in the reveal trailer. Currently it doesn't consist of many people, however now that they have reached the minimum amount to fund the project they have started to higher more people.

How much content we will get in the game at release is now dependent on how many more people they can hire, which in turn depends on how many stretch goals they can reach.

im glad im backing this biggrin.gif
Not one to rush anything, but i hope more funding can help them release the game sooner. from the tech demo it appears that the engine is already well on its way to being finished (at least the graphics and physics of everything) 2 years just seems like a really long time for how much they already have. Time will tell wink.gif
post #100 of 537
Good, now hire a few extra people with the extra funds and get this out sooner. 2 years from now I probably won't care anymore.
