From what i've been reading there's a possibility that Haswell desktop CPU's will support DDR4. IF so that'll be an upgrade that i'll have to do. We're getting ahead of ourselves though, Haswell won't come out for another year, then a year later they'll drop something that makes Haswell "irelevent" then the cycle will continue. I wish Intel would just keep the same socket for longer than 2 years...LGA 775 was around for about 5.

Just like DDR2 and DDR3. DDR4 will be useless for the first ~2 years or so. No real world speed gains, higher prices, very high timings, etc.

By the time DDR4 is attractive and actually offers speed benefits at a price that is worth the 1-2FPS gain... Haswell won't even be on your radar.

DDR4 will be supported by the Haswell Server CPU's, not desktop. DDR4 becomes mainstream with Skylake.

SB was also new architecture but only 10-15% faster. Only that it Overclocked so much better it was worth it over first gen.

It's not a change in focus, Intel's primary strategy has been get slightly faster performance but much lower power consumption since the Core 2 Duo. (For every 1% of performance added, they want 2% power savings iirc)
