[Buildlog]Blackbox (800D+TJ07 inspired build) Dual 360+240+120rads.

Introduction:

Its been a year since I bought my Corsair Obsidian 800D and been using this unmodified case for all my parts. Coming from generic cases to mid towers to this immense full tower chasis, I was really impressed with this case because of its sublime quality and astonishing finish. I just love every angle of it because of its simplicity and elegance. I named this project as Blackbox because its a big box colored black, not really, I named it because of the tragic death of my mother who died in a helicopter crash and the last time I heard her voice was in a blackbox that was recovered from the crash site near Afghanistan. She was a really brave medic in rescuing wounded US Army soldiers from the battlefield and I am really proud of her. Miss you mom!

Anyway, upon researching from different forums and starring at beautiful 800D watercooled builds, I decided to crank up this stock computer to a beautiful yet hardcore system.

Goal:

Its simply reaching my dream to have an superfast computer with all the watercooling parts in it. Yet, I've seen a lot of builds with 240 radiators at the bottom and 360 on top. Like hundreds of them. To make it more different, I planned carefully to put some steroids in this massive case.

Purpose:

This rig, is for mainly photo and video editing, rendering, overclocking , benchmarking and some gaming. Some of my collegues in Rig Builders Alliance here in the Philippines are speed junkies and they always seek for the top spot in the benchmarking community, so I became a part of it and squeezing every single component I have just to reach its full potential.
Inspiration:
From the moment I've seen the TJ-07 Murderbox MK II.. I felt inlove with the bottom part of it. Its just beautiful to stare at. So, I made an sketch up and did some measurements in my 800D to fill the spaces below.

I mostly bought my parts on local shops nearby here in Manila, Philippines just to get save more money. Good thing I didnt ran out of gas with so much excitement in shopping all my parts!Apologeez for the crappy quality of photos, I didnt bring my dslr. tongue.gif

FYI, I got these a year ago.

First thing I bought is the case itself. I had a hard time bringing this gigantic heavy weight tower at home that almost broke my back!

Two kits of Corsair Dominator GTs!! These were the best rams available locally.

Two EVGA GTX 580 Superclocks! No 600 series yet.

The board itself. Why z68ud7? Simply I was after the number of power phases. thumb.gif

The flagship power supply of Corsair, AX1200 80+Gold.

and the rest.

I also added another card.

Coming from my old pentium D setup...

To this sublime system.

As of March 31, 2011

Ok, time came to end this aircooling and presealed lcs! Decided to sell the third card, and bought all the necessary watercooling parts!thumb.gif

I was on the brick of buying the previous blocks which suffered from flaking, good thing I waited a bit for the revisions of EK waterblocks with EN.
So here are the parts.

I used FTW sleeves in these.

Also decided to sleeve my front panel wires and powersupply cables as well.

Added 7 gentle typhoons AP15. I am so glad I bought them in a very cheap price from a reseller here in Manila. $17 a piece.

ok going back. smile.gif

here's the loop I did.

Tygon 3/8 5/8 are really bendable. I had no problems at all in doing this loop especially that 90' loop from ram to nb/sb.

next would be the case modding!

Okay, so lets work on the interior part of the case.

For me to mount a 360 radiator at the bottom cage.
First I need to remove the bottom hdd cage. By doing that, there are 8 rivets to be drilled. 4 in front, and another 4 inside(2 on top mounted at the middle plate, and 2 at the bottom.) Pretty easy to remove actually.

Then, I had to cut the front panel to extend the inlet and outlet of the radiator to the front. There's actually a 1 inch space front the front panel to the cover. Just enough to accommodate the radiator headers.

the outcome.

CONS!!!There is only a 1.5cm space from the psu headers to the end tanks of the rad so it is impossible to use the first 4 6 pin power supply headers of the AX1200.

I also made a 1 inch cut at the metal part that supports the AX1200.
(sorry for the blurry picture.)

Alright, so I also tried to fit another 360 at the bottom.

But, dual 360s wont just fit because there's not enough space for the power supply wires.doh.gif

So, I went to plan B.

360 and a 240 radiator side by side.

As much as I wanted to go push pull on these radiators, I just cant because there's not enough space for the tubes to pass.

It takes patience and a lot of effort to fit these 2 radiators at the bottom and it also made me decide to remove first the powersupply before installing the.
These EK Coolstream radiators are the perfect fit for this kind of setup. (If your radiator has the same size like mine, you can do this too!)

thanks derickwm!thumb.gif

I have modding buddy here and we are currently modding my side panels.

In addition, I also used the solid side panel that came with the case. we did have problems modding the other side which has the stock acrylic window.. but we are working on it.
